Stuffed Hearts, Hosted By The Taiwanese Student Association Club
Description: The event that I attended is called Stuffed Hearts and was hosted by the Taiwanese Student Association Club. The event was held on February 14, also known as Valentine’s day. The program was hosted from 7-8pm and took place in the Student Activities Center in room 303. I believe that the program was a celebration of both Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Year’s which were in the same week. It integrated both holidays through arts and crafts activities which allowed for participants to engage in creatively and interactively. When the event first occurred, we had to make a line and were given small pink tickets with numbers on them to keep track of the number of people. Then, as we walked, we signed in and were given different red envelopes …show more content…
The program kept people’s attention because it was interactive and hands-on. Participants could create stuffed hearts, decorate cookies with icing, and practice calligraphy.
Content: The program did promote its purpose to create a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Years. It also met the needs of the targeted audience because everyone was able to participate and have fun.
Organization: The program went smoothly with some exceptions. A problem that the members encountered was that the glue they provided didn’t stick to the fabric for the stuffed hearts. This hindered people from being able to finish their hearts. We had to wait for staplers to finish making the hearts, which was what the event was centered and focused on. In addition to that, with that obstacle, a lot of time was wasted, and we had to be rushed out of the room because other people reserved the room. Moreover, I feel like holding the event for one hour wasn’t enough time for the participants to circulate around the different craft stations and fully engage in each activity. The club members weren’t really organized because they didn’t test out making the hearts before presenting them to us. Both the club members and participants were going through a learning process together, which is not necessarily terrible. However, I do feel like the club members should have been a little more prepared. Aside from that, the event went well and was still engaging and

The CHOC Children’s Breathmobile is the mobile asthma clinic dedicated to serving underserved children who may be unable to travel or pay for preventive asthma care in Orange County. As a volunteer, I helped nurses organize patients' charts, fax medical records, and confirm appointment schedules for patients' parents. Sometimes, I came with nurses and doctors to clinic sites to serve as a translator or simply shadow doctors. One doctor told me that regardless of whether the patients had insurance, the doctor would not turn anybody away if they were in need. Through this experience, I learned that the most gratification I could get is not receiving, but giving back to the…

The use of “celebrities, cute puppets, rapid fire editing, and intriguing tunes” educated the children while still entertaining them (147). Sunday is the main events so the runners for the half and full marathon came in to retrieve their information packets, and shirts which they will wear during each run. Before I was assigned to work with a few other ladies behind the Shirt Distribution stand, the staff explained to all the volunteers about the water pouches that will be available to use during the events, and briefly demonstrated how the new water pouches worked, and how we should hold the water for the runners as the passed by. At the Shirt Distribution stand, we handed out long sleep shirts for each race, and collected the Shirt tabs which were located on each runner’s bibs. Once we collected the tabs, we each placed them in a clear plastic tub, which the head of staff would use to count if they needed to know how many shirts were distributed. We each took on equal responsibilities for the shirt distribution tasks, and when we were not busy; we conversed and got to know one another a little better. Pizza and burgers were provided for lunch, along with some water or soda to drink. Starbucks was available for everyone to drink freely, and cupcakes were being donated for two dollars towards charity. One of the supporters was a ballet company touring for the holidays, so they chose to put on a free short performance for the visitors at the Freedom Marathon Exposition, while giving the children a free lesson on how to properly stretch the muscles in their body. I thought it was great way to market the business and to get local patrons interested and eager to see more. I found it interesting to see that all ages were running or walking the marathons and it open my eyes up to how many people are actively involved in the community. Everyone was really humble and patient while waiting to receive their shirts which allowed the…

The next event I looked at was creative problem solving. Personally, I am not the best at critical thinking skills or problem solving skills, but if I actually attempted it I m sure I could. This even allows you to have 1-3 people. This event also has many different rounds. Round one requires you to take a test, and then if you pass the test or test high you move onto the second round. The second round is where you are given a problem to solve in thirty minutes. When you are all done solving your problem you have ten minutes to present your solution. Considering I am not a good test taker I think I’m going pass up this event.…

Since an early age, the Boy Scouts of America has instilled the values of honesty, respect, and how to get along with others. As I assimilated the Scout Law and Oath into my core principles I saw how it led me through everyday life. The values I learned while working towards my Eagle Scout, such as outdoor skills, the desire to serve, leading effectively, and the chance to grow as a person, have molded me into the man I am today. Scouting has been a large part of my life. Ever since I came home that day in first grade with a flyer for Cub Scouts, I have remained active in the scouting program.…

However, this time I wanted to host an event that was more meaningful than watching contestants imbibe gross substances. I wanted to add a deeper meaning and cause the contestants and audience to reflect on the fears that held them back. However, my student government class that it would be unscrupulous to change the event because it was a tradition. I knew that I wanted to do something different but was scared to act because of the dubiety of my peers. However, I knew the event needed to be meaningful and this was an opportunity to affect the culture of my high school. Thus as the chair for the event, I redesigned the landscape. Contestants that signed up were asked to fill out a survey of questions that highlighted specific fears. Then on the stage we asked them to depict a fear in a picture and their partner had to guess what it represented. The event was entertaining as many contestants had witty remarks; however, on a profounder level it caused the contestants to really think about the things they had allowed to inhibit their individual growth. This event has been added to the new tradition at my high school.…

I spent the Kadayawan Festival with friends, classmate and family. On the first day of the festival me and my Classmates in English 102 namely Erix, Princess and her friend Jela went to a KTV near People’s Park. We sang, danced, and stuffed ourselves with delicious food and snacks. Even if we don’t hit the right pitch of the song we still had fun laughing at ourselves. We had so much fun starting at 4 o’clock in the afternoon up to 8 o’clock in the evening. After the KTV we went separate ways and my friend and I went to Gaisano Mall and had our dinner at Pizza Hut then went home.…
