The Presidents: Successes and Failures
The United States has had 44 presidents. The first one was George Washington in 1789, and the most recent is Barack Obama in 2009. The President of the United States is one of the most powerful men in the world. He is the chief executive of a political institution which employs several million civil servants and has control over the most powerful nuclear arsenal in the world. Therefore, the level of scrutiny upon his affairs is intense, not only from political bodies, both foreign and domestic, but also from the people of the United States. The level of pressure on this individual is intense and any wrong move, whether that be in his personal life or in his political affairs can lead to a “failed” presidency.
The role of the President is the most prestigious one in the political sphere. There are many factors that contribute to the success and failure of a president. Factors such as popularity, strong leadership, congress, ability to speak well in public, ability to handle stress, communication skills and more that would really help them in attempting to better our country. Leadership is a rare and important characteristic in a president. Being a president is all about leadership, leadership of the country, the nation, and the people want someone who is going to do a good job at that, not someone who is going to send the country into an economic depression. Congress is important because having the ability to control and persuade members Congress is extremely beneficial when it comes down to voting on bills and laws and certain things that Congress would put their foot down and say no to if the president did not have the ability to persuade
