Successful Leadership
Name: Bryan Ng (13) Class: 3A2 Date: 26 July 2010

Question: Successful leadership is about winning hearts and minds. Discuss.

Warren Bennis, an American scholar widely regarded as a pioneer on the contemporary field of leadership studies, once said that “Leadership is the wise use of power. Power is the capacity to translate intention into reality and sustain it.” Indeed, leadership comes with power but in order to gain this power, a leader must encompass three main leadership qualities. By doing so, the people will feel that their leader actually cares for them and that the leader is as though a close friend of theirs, supportive. This will definitely help bridge the gap between the leader and the people, bringing their relationship closer. Through this, the leaders are then able to gain the trust of the people, and when this mutual trust it built, the group can then effectively reach goals as a whole, as one. Of course, the leader must also be meritocratic and fair in order to win the hearts and minds of the people. The core of it all is to make the people happy, make everyone happy. Being biased to a certain group of people may bring them happiness and gain the

My job title is Training Co-ordinator for an organisation called Lifeskills Centres, I assess in the following areas; business administration, customer service, management, delivering level 2 and 3 and also any supporting key skills needed. I am responsible for my caseload of learners; their progress, learning and achievement of the qualification. I must cater each programme to suit the needs of the individual learner, I do this by setting each new starter off on initial assessments so that I can see what level they are currently at which will help me decide which course is the most suitable and which approach will be the most beneficial for the learner. I am also responsible for creating strong professional relationships with the learners new employers and maintaining relationships with existing employers this is for two reasons so they would recommend us to other employers so we gain a good reputation and so that they will want to use Lifeskills as a training provider for all of their staff and will not use a different organisation as it is a competitive market. I also advertise vacancies for our employers who have had good experiences in the past with apprentices and would like to recruit a new one. I agree with the employer all of the details to go on to the advert and interview all of the candidates and trial period the suitable ones for a week before sending them to the employer themselves to interview and then make the final decision.…

It is the most common thing going on in the school yard: bullying. Bullying is any repeated action that is done in a harmful way. Like most of us, we do NOT want to be bullied. But with the rise of technology, bullying has gotten bigger than just in the school yard. It’s now on social media. Most people think the two are the same, but if you go research in depth, it is more different than you think. The difference between cyberbullying and traditional bullying is the horrible non face-to-face interaction, the witnesses that are involved, how adults have no idea what teens are doing on their phone, how it goes viral in seconds, how you can show a picture that can make fun of them, imbalance of power, and you can be anonymous.…
