All of these facts plus more led to one conclusion: equine-human relationships can be therapeutic. The participants in this study recovered significantly with help from their equine counter-parts. The horses gave the equestrians a purpose; a reason to get up each day. However, while this research was a success, Yorke, Adams, and Coady remark, “riding is not for everyone.” Still, equine therapy is a promising option for a wide range of…

Texas Roadhouse has a very specific style they use for all their restaurants. The goal is to make people feel like they have stepped right into Texas, minus the desert and scorching hot sun. Lining the walls are horseshoes and cacti throughout the restaurant. To make everything a little more fun and lighthearted, the roadhouse has an armadillo named Andy as their mascot. Every forty-five minutes the servers break out in a choreographed line dance through the isles of restaurant. For birthdays, they bring out a saddle and give whoever’s birthday it is a big Texas yeehaw; no matter if they are four or ninety-four. Even the menu incorporates Texan features…

Sunday is the main events so the runners for the half and full marathon came in to retrieve their information packets, and shirts which they will wear during each run. Before I was assigned to work with a few other ladies behind the Shirt Distribution stand, the staff explained to all the volunteers about the water pouches that will be available to use during the events, and briefly demonstrated how the new water pouches worked, and how we should hold the water for the runners as the passed by. At the Shirt Distribution stand, we handed out long sleep shirts for each race, and collected the Shirt tabs which were located on each runner’s bibs. Once we collected the tabs, we each placed them in a clear plastic tub, which the head of staff would use to count if they needed to know how many shirts were distributed. We each took on equal responsibilities for the shirt distribution tasks, and when we were not busy; we conversed and got to know one another a little better. Pizza and burgers were provided for lunch, along with some water or soda to drink. Starbucks was available for everyone to drink freely, and cupcakes were being donated for two dollars towards charity. One of the supporters was a ballet company touring for the holidays, so they chose to put on a free short performance for the visitors at the Freedom Marathon Exposition, while giving the children a free lesson on how to properly stretch the muscles in their body. I thought it was great way to market the business and to get local patrons interested and eager to see more. I found it interesting to see that all ages were running or walking the marathons and it open my eyes up to how many people are actively involved in the community. Everyone was really humble and patient while waiting to receive their shirts which allowed the…

    Animal Abuse In Rodeos

    • 1577 Words
    • 7 Pages

There are many reasons why and why not we should agree with what is being considered animal cruelty in rodeos. PETA argues “docile animals are physically provoked into displaying wild behavior in order to make the cowboys look brave.” However, rodeos do not change animals’ behavior. Animals behave the same way as they would just like in the pasture or wherever they are. An animal can act up anytime and anywhere. Electric prods, spurs, and bucking straps are not used badly but people think they are: “Electric prods, spurs, and bucking…

Every now and then a special bond occurs between a father and a daughter. It all began when my dad saw a Christmas promotion in the newspaper stating that Lowes home improvement store was giving away "Dusty" the pony on Christmas Eve, no purchase necessary. Dad was only 9 years old, but he got my grandmother to drop him off at Lowes the morning of the drawing. "And the winner of Dusty the pony is . . . Andrew Waites (my dad)!” Dad then got a job at a Tennessee Walking Horse stable where the owner agreed to board and feed Dusty in exchange for my dad’s working at the barn after school. Two years later, the owner took my dad to the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. It was then that my dad saw Reves Little Boy crowned World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Pony. My dad told himself that if he could ever afford a "real" walking horse, he would want it to be just like Reves Little Boy and win the Pony World Grand Championship.…
