Journal #1
In this essay, the author states four principles that guide the pizza dude philosophy. Principle #1- being cool towards the pizza dude is practice in humility and forgiveness. The author lists all the stereotypical aspects of what a pizza dude is like when they are on the road driving to deliver the pizza to people of all different types. So she is basically try’s to tell us that even if they do drive a little crazy (in an ugly old beater), we can learn humility to accept their ways. Principle #2- being cool to the pizza dude is practice in empathy. Everyone knows that being a pizza delivery is not the highest job on the charts, but nonetheless, it is a job and pays. Principle #3- being cool to the pizza dude is a practice in honor and it reminds us to honor honest work. The author compares pizza dudes to the big CEO’s who bring the company to the brink of bankruptcy, resulting in 20,000 people losing their jobs while they build houses the size of a luxury hotel. She says, “Bringing the company to the brink of bankruptcy, resulting in 20,000 people losing their jobs while the CEO builds a home the size of a luxury hotel.” Principle #4- being cool to the pizza dude is practice in equality. “I am the equal to all I …show more content…
meet because of the kindness in my heart.
And it all starts here with the pizza delivery dude.” This quote just shows how we should treat everyone with equality, no matter what the possessions they have,
the cars they drive or the jobs they have.
As I read the Essay Be Cool to the Pizza Delivery Dude I was amazed at what you can learn from the small experiences in life. I believe that fracturing humility and forgiveness is difficult for people because they get too hung up on everything going on in their own little world. We must all make a point to forgive and be humble. These traits do not come naturally. I liked that Sarah found empathy for the pizza dude. Trying to please your boss and the customer and getting the pizza to its destination through all the traffic and weather is a difficult job at times I am sure. Job are hard to find these days, I have respect for anyone who gets out and try’s to find one and is willing to do the best job they can at what they do. I am a manager over 28 housekeepers and Laundry works. My employees have a constant dirty job to perform with minimal pay and they all do an excellent job. IT is hard to keep a smile on your face when you have spent all morning cleaning up after people and they go right behind you messing it up all the while getting paid more than they do. These employees deserve a pat on the back every day. They work hard for little pay every day to support themselves and their families. I am grateful for every one of them. I disagree with the statement that equality is the pride taken in performing a job. I don't think that equality has anything to do with the performance of a job. Equality is simply a fact. All mankind where created equal. There are those that might be born to privilege and wealth and those born to poverty but, worth is not in money or deed it is in you and being who you were created to be. Finally it is always good to tip the pizza dude. It is important to make other know that they are appreciated in every aspect of life. Wouldn't you want someone to tip you if it was your job to deliver the pizza? I like how she used the pizza dude to show how we should treat people and how treating others well will in turn make you feel like a better person. You can never go wrong doing well to others. Even though they might not respond to your kindness the way you expect, kindness will always come back to you sooner or later.
