It gave him the motivation because he felt as if somebody was actually there so he had more of a reason to do it. The pomegranates also reminded him of his land and its culture. The blooming fruits were a part of the mountainous Albanian terrain that he knew as home. With the Kanun being such a prominent factor in his life style, he knew that killing Zef was what he had to do to do right by the Kanun and what was needed in order to restore respect and honor for his family. Despite everything, he breathed as if he felt relieved”(Kadare 157).
