After reading the article, “Shattered Lives” by Kristin Lewis, the challenges Dania faces living as a refugee outside her country was trying to find a school education. I know this was a challenge because on page 8 the passage stats, “For refugees, getting an education in their host countries can be a big challenge. Schools are often too expensive…” This shows that finding a school was a hard challenge for Dania and her family.

Also, she faced a another challenge. This challenge was that now she was living in a garage with water, although she and her family didn’t have heat.     One of the social problems that concerns me is how immigrants/refugees parents can be supportive in their children’s academic success from middle to high school in the Wake County area. Most immigrants/refugees’ children face difficulties in school, at least in their first year in the school. Many of these children’s parents do not have the ability to help them with their homework, or assist with their sports games, parent meetings, and so on. Speaking from my own experience, all of my refugee friends that I grew up with and went to school with in Texas never had parents assisting us with our school work. However, our parents had higher expectations from us for doing good in school.
