Summary Of I Belong Here Poem Analysis

This article, " I Belong Here' was written by Amin Ahmad who was born in Calcutta, India. This article appeared in the "The Sun Magazine"(January 2010). When it comes time for immigrants to be screened for clearance at an airport they are look at differently by people who are citizens. Immigrants are required to show more information about themselves unlike people that are born citizens.

Amin talks about his experience of going through a London airport with his American Fiancée. The British immigration officials treated him differently than they treated his American finance. She was able to go through the immigration check with no problems, but Admin was not. As soon as they got to him they ask him to step to the side and sit and wait
to be cleared so that he could get through. It was then at that moment that Amin realized that the immigration officials treated him differently because of his brown skin color and Indian passport. While he sat on the bench with other people just like him he stated, "My place is here." He knew that he was accepted and not being judged by his skin color when he was sitting there with people like him. Because they were also being judge just like him by other people.

This essay was an effective essay because the writer was able to get his point across; that immigrates are treated differently at airports than citizens
