Dr.King talks about the importance of the sanitation workers’ strike. He talks about, “You know what happened the other day, and the press dealt only with the windows breaking. I read the articles. They very seldom got around to mentioning the fact that 1300 sanitation workers are on strike, and that Memphis is not being fair to them… They did not get to that.” What is actually important is that the media is not focusing on non-violent activities, just the violent ones and not the issues. Dr.King is hopeful that they can overcome segregation in the Civil Rights Movement and that no one is going to stop them. He comments that, ” Now we’re going to march again, and we got to march again.” This quote means that no one can stop you from doing what you need to do. Having people controlling you and your actions gives you no control over yourself. So you need to take control of your own life and follow the correct path.
Achieving equality during the Civil Rights Movement was really important and achieving that goal was Dr.King’s main goal. He points out, “ We are saying that we are determined to be men. We are determined to be people. We are saying,we are saying that we are God’s children. And if we are God’s children, we don’t have to live like we are forced to live.” The quote states that we are all equal through God’s perspective, and that we are all God’s people.
