Summary Of Kiritsubo From The Tale Of Genji
The argument Buruma makes in his article is that the greatest act of seduction is the chivalrous personality of a noble man. The Tale of Genji treasured talents in art, poetry, and modesty. The talent of being sensual and seductive are considered by many to be of an art, usually appreciated in cultures where brothels or erotic parties were held at high standards of the rich or powerful. However, the culture of “The Tale of Genji” stressed the importance of humility or delicacy of the women which was considered to be even more suggestive than blatantly showing off “goods”.
From reading the excerpt of Kiritsubo from the Tale of Genji, I do agree with Buruma’s article. “….but some less stubborn began now to recall that she had indeed been a lady
