Although the Jordan’s never said anything to their son Dickie, once he turned 12 years old on his birthday, he learns about the test and how he has to take it. The author in the text shows us that the parents are afraid to tell their son Dickie about the test. “Forget about it,” He said. “He’ll do all right.” ( Seslar 1). What this shows is how the parents are worried about the test and they are scared to tell Dickie about the test even though they don’t even know about it themselves. To add on, they are telling him on his twelfth birthday. This test is a “Government intelligence they give children at the age of twelve.” (Seslar 2).
