Topic: I am studying about Asian-American stereotypes as seen in the series “Fresh Off the Boat” 2. Question: because I want to find out how the main characters in the series showcase the stereotypes set for them 3. Significance: in order to help my readers understand why others perceive Asian-Americans in a specific type of way. “Fresh Off the Boat” is a comedy about a Taiwanese family who lives in the United States. The series shows various stereotypes that are expected from Asian-Americans through a comedic way. These stereotypes, such as being frugal or “cheap” as others would call it, having high standards for grades as compared to other people, being overly superstitious, and many more are showcased in the series. I want to find the reason behind why Asian-Americans are often “attached” by others to these stereotypes.
