Marlene Schiappa, a feminist and writer who if France's junior minister for gender equality, had been extremely impacted by stories told on the social media compagin againt sexaul harassment. She stated on October 16, 2017 that the government was considering how to define street harassment and how much to fine. The government is going to consult legal professionals on its proposals and hold workshops for citizens across the country, aiming to put measures before Parliament next year.

Street harassment is a significant problem in Belgium. According Cornell, 75 percent of Belgian women experienced street harassment for the first time before the age of 17, and almost every woman surveyed had been verbally harassed in public.
