Separations is a poem that was written in the late 1900's about the realistic perspective on romance. The poetic voice displays two different personas throughout the poem to illustrate her journey of learning to be independent where she doesn’t have to rely on another person to make her happy. The poem starts with the character highlighting her anxieties of being alone and how her life seemed incomplete without her significant other. By the end of the poem the character finds their true self and knows that she no longer needs to depend on her partner.
