Summary:
This story is about a man in about his 20’s who is on a trip to Havana. His young friend introduces him to his stepsister’s friend named Yolardis who is shy and self-contained. As they get to know each other more and get more intimate they become better known to each other. One night the man decides to do something nice for Yolardis and buy’s her a $135 dress. In return she promises to meet him that night wearing the dress so they can do something nice together. As he waits she does not show up and he is upset with the girl. The next day she comes crying to him saying she didn’t show up because she was upset about her mother returning the dress for the money. He tells her that the dress is no big deal and that he will buy another one for her. But the next day she doesn’t show up, after that he never hears from her for over a week. His trip comes to an end and as he climbs in the taxi to go to the airport. As they drive by he notices her on the street. He sees her and they make eye contact but he continues on.

Setting: The setting is the couples house. The house is hot and humid and they are sitting at a table playing scrabble. This setting is important because this is where the whole story takes place and where everything important happens.

Conflict: some conflicts are character vs. self in the beginning when he’s regretting making the decision to get married and wishing he could go off and do more adventurous things in his life. Another conflict is character vs. fate when he finds out the games been jinxed and tries to arrange the words to try and make fate turn on his wife. The last conflict is character vs.
