Animal Testing Animal testing is cruel and barbaric. In the article "A change of heart about animals" by Jeremy Rifkin, featured in the los Angeles Times, Rifkin discussed how scientists have discovered that animals are not far different from humans. The studies show that animals have similar emotions and reactions when experiencing such emotions in times of distress or fear. Despite these finding, animals are still continually tested on for products and other experiments in order to see what the result would be. Thousands of animals are used by companies to test their products on in order to find any harm it might do to somebody who uses it. For example, beauty products companies test their makeup on animals such as rabbits and mice to find out adverse effects that the product may have. Many of the animals are left blinded due to defective eyeliner or given a rash or infection due to a perfume. Peta states, "rabbits are still tormented in the notorious Draize eye irritancy test, in which cosmetics, dishwashing liquid, drain cleaner, and other substances are dripped into the animals ' eyes, often causing redness, swelling, discharge, ulceration, hemorrhaging, …show more content…
Since the time of WW1, dogs have been used for testing different poisonous gasses and pesticides to study the effects that they would have on humans. Peta reports, "As unbelievable as it may seem, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires by law that pesticides be tested on dogs, who are shoved into "inhalation chambers" where they try in vain to escape the deadly poisons that are pumped in." The report of these horrendous tests have shown that no conclusion has been made on how these poisons could affect humans, the only conclusion drawn is that it causes death. A scene like the one described sounds like a scene taken straight out of a horror
