I reflect on the HBR article “The Best of Intentions” by John Humphrey, is a case involving racial and gender discrimination. Cynthia Mitchell is the manager for Agfunds financial services. Peter the regional vice president assigned Cynthia to make changes within the company that will bring in more customers. Cynthia respects her boss, but is in disbelief when Peter suggests that she don’t hire a highly qualified African American male (Steve) as the spokesman for Arkansas district manager. Peter knows from past experiences that his Caucasians farmers do not trust African Americans professionals handling their money.
