Felixcy Diaz The government has many laws and regulations which have a purpose. We may not fully understand what their purpose is but we must follow them. They also make it seem as if they are always protecting each citizen. It is not only being done through these laws but also the control they have on deciding what is best for the citizens. Should the government be the ones to have the last word on what is the best for us? In the documentary, Free to Choose: “Who protects the Consumer?” Milton Friedman shows how the government has different type of agencies that are made to determine the money we pay for the goods and their quality. This is very true and is what the government should do. As citizens, it may seem as if their purpose is to protect us but that is not always the case. The government also needs to let the citizens make their own decision for themselves. At the end of the day even if they are the testing all these products accidents can always happen. It may be more secure but as mentioned in the article […] Some administration officials think the best way to control you is through taking choices away (Free To Choose part 7: Who Protects the Consumer?, 2012). Therefore, we see how the government is not trying to benefit the people, their purpose is to do what is in their best interest. So as citizens we should not have to put up with letting them decide for what we want to use or not. As we have seen the government and agencies may have the last word in deciding what is best for us. Yet this is not the way it should be there are other types of alternatives that can be used to be able to not limit others from buying what they think is safe.
