The Iroquois Constitution doesn’t have much to do with any animals it more has to do with celebrating generations and holding love and peace within the community but it also shows how to be strong. It celebrates ancestors and gives the chiefs place down by generation. It explains how to be chief and how to manage everything with the community and the spiritual beliefs. In The Modoc tale it explains how people came to earth. The bears took care of the human children as if they were bear cubs. As people noticed they bang turning the bears into animals and wouldn’t let them walk and talk like animals but to get in all four and no longer talk. In the ancient times of American Indians they told there stories by passing them around orally. The tribes had no written language so they had no way of writing them down. 1. Why did you decide to read this book? At first, I was going to pick the book “The boy in the striped pyjamas” of John Boyne since I’ve read it in Vietnamese verse and so blown away by it as such a distinguished perspective into the Holocaust and the Auschwitz concentration camp. But because I’ve already read it, the book would just be a safe choice for me…

The Earth on Turtle’s Back The story I chose to write about is The Earth on Turtle’s back. I chose this selection because it’s based upon a mythical story which has been around for decades. After reading this story, I came to a conclusion about the Native Americans. The Native Americans had high hopes and valid respect for nature and their natural environment.…

In “The World on the Turtle’s Back” I noticed that there are several positive traits in the Native American culture. One trait shown in the text was that the Iroquois people were very caring and wanted to help one another out as best as they could. In the story this was found when the pregnant woman was falling and the flock of birds teamed up to catch her and break her fall. The next trait shows how the Iroquois people are courageous and willing to risk everything to help someone out or help everyone. During the creation myth the muskrat built up enough courage to go to the bottom of the sea to get some dirt for the woman to grow her crops on.…

After considering the historic page and viewing the living world with anxious solicitude, the most melancholy emotions of sorrowful indignation have depressed my spirits, and I have sighed when obliged to confess, that either nature has made a great difference between man and beast, or that the civilization, which has hitherto taken place in the world, has been very partial. I have turned over various books written on the subject of educating the overly hairy beast’s, and patiently observed the conduct of parents and the management of schools lying in the forest; but what has been the result? A profound conviction, that the neglected education of my fellow creatures is a grand source of the misery I deplore; and that Bigfoots in particular,…

O’Connor’s use of visual imagery in ‘Turtles Hatching’ not only tells us, but shows us about the life cycle of the turtles. When the baby turtles are trying to get to the water the seagulls and crabs try and catch them so that they can eat them, which leaves only a few that make it to the water. ‘Slipping in, as it left, the shadow, a thousand times larger, of a parent come shoreward to lay; two ends of the earthbound process linked in the uncomprehending meeting of kin’. This quote tells us, that when a baby turtle has hatched and made its way to the water to begin its life in the ocean, a mother turtle has come to shore to lay her eggs. ‘I gathered a living brother, hiked it over the rock-flats, (fighting on in my hand). Through this use of personal pronouns, O’Connor helps us to connect with the environment he is describing. In this way, O’Connor enables…
