Summary Of The Gifts Of Imperfection
I’ve really enjoyed reading The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown, who is known for more than her research studies, and specifically with social posts on her blog. Her Ted Talks and commencement speeches inspire the young generation to pursue the Wholehearted revolution, the living which cultivates the courage, compassion, and connection. Wholehearted living is not only facilitating the life but also promoting the individual’s life story by finding his/her self-fulfilling prophecy of steady happiness. My mission after reading this book is to practice 2 specific guideposts, Cultivating Authenticity and Meaningful Work, in order to support living wholeheartedly stress-free life and become a true role model for the young generation that struggles …show more content…
However, it is not easy to know right away the specific and meaningful job that one can ever do. Brown also agrees with my assumption that she used to “wince every time someone asked me this question” (Brown, pg. 114). What do you do? I chose this guidepost particularly because the meaningful work and the goal for finding one’s career path lies within his/her authenticity. All terms are connected in The Gifts of Imperfection and the result, “paradise”, is the Wholehearted living. I believe that a person should know his/her strengths and weaknesses first, then what makes them happy and their motivation in order to pursue specific goal that should match with their talents and characteristics. The answer for that question, for finding a meaningful work, only lies deep within the heart. Since I am not declared my major yet, I can’t truly answer the question for 100%. Nevertheless, my talents and characteristics make my life easier to be able to pursue for multiple slash careers- an athlete/basketball player, an investment manager/management consultant, professional food taster/actor. My meaningful work and dream job would be working as an investment banking analyst in Wall Street, and later to serve as management consultant in one of the “Big 4” Accounting firms worldwide. By not mentioning my other slashes as meaningful, however, do not make me squander the gifts that bring distress to my life. I still practice other slashes in my free time, that eventually, bring joy and reduce my stress

The quote by Frederick Buechner highlights the importance of “work (a) that you most need to do and (b) that the world most needs to have done” (4). My vision for my own vocation had already lined up with Buechner’s perspective because I enjoy serving others. Serving others was something I was brand new to when I joined clubs and organizations in high school, and with the guidance of some of my mentors I have found that service is one of my greatest joys. I want to be remembered as an advocate, someone who stood up for what is wholesome and righteous, and someone who works to help those in…

Legend Ends or Perfection Wasted? Each person brings a special quality and gift to life that creates an individualistic style to the world that we live in. The poem Perfection Wasted was written by John Updike in the year 1990; this poem accentuates the flair that can never be replaced when a loved one dies. One way to better understand a poem is to paraphrase it into your own words. Paraphrase of Perfection Wasted: One thing that is unfortunate about departing this life is the lost vivacity that a person works to expand since the day they were born. The closest relationships surrounding the person enjoy the up close and personal events in the stage of life. They are there through the good times and the bad while having utmost concern for you. The many special moments that were spent together, will never be relived again in the same capacity. Though they can try to be like you, they will never fully succeed due to individual quality you brought to life. "Imitators and descendants aren't the same" The theme of this poem is death and what factors play into what is lost when a person dies. The setting of the poem is philosophical in thinking about qualities that someone special carries in retrospect to life. I found no similes in the poem. Perfection Wasted is a metaphorical in the idea that is parallel to the idea that life is a stage and we are the players. Updike uses a lot of abstract and theoretical imagery as well as minimal visual imagery. One example of visual imagery includes the descriptions of the stage and the description of the faces he sees in the audience. An example of kinetic imagery is the "laughter" which leads the audience members to cry. The imagery is vivid and serves the purpose of swaying the view of the reader into an emotional state. The poem contains a medium to high level of diction that contains little slang while using one contraction in the last line that is the word "aren't". The words are not overly elaborate and maintain a descriptive…

First Tybalt is one of the people who are responsible for the tragedy. Tybalt hated the Montagues already, and when Romeo showed up to the Capulet party, Tybalt overreacted and got angry at Romeo and that made him angry and resulted in killing Mercutio (I, i, 55-96). Lord Capulet said, don’t do anything to Romeo, but Tybalt didn’t listen because he was too angry for Romeo even being at the Capulet party. Also If he had just little kindness in his heart, Mercutio and Tybalt would’ve lived and Romeo wouldn’t be banished (III, i, 112-128). This resulted it in Romeo’s banishment, and in the end, his death, along with Juliet. Romeo’s banishment led to Friar Lawrence’s plan and Friar Lawrence is also responsible for their death from his own Plan…

The article “Are You Deciding On Purpose” about the interview of author, speaker, and counselor Richard Leider really made me think about my life and what I want to do with myself. Leider brings up many great points in the interview and it was an eye opener for me after I finished reading the article. The first thing he mentions in the interview is how people are intimidated by all the choices we have now as career options. Nowadays, there are so many career paths to choose from that it overwhelms people and the decisions that they make. I think this is true for everyone and especially me. I thought about this for a while and I too do not have any idea what I want to do in my life. I have changed my mind many times about what I wanted to do as a career and I always thought about the money. After I finished reading the article, I realized that picking a career path is not all about the money. It’s about whether you enjoy what you are doing because you spend 60% of your entire life working. If I spent 60% of my entire life just working to pay the bills, I would be miserable by the time I’m retired because there wasn’t any satisfaction or fulfillment for me. I still don’t have any clue on what I want to do with my life but reading this article really changed my mind on a lot of things.…

Before the devastating events that occurred in my life back in 2005, I was a humble and caring step-mother and wife. After these events, I remained both humble and caring but realized that I had an aim that meant more to others than to self. I had to become an advocate of contentment for all those whom were suffering as I, around me. Learning acquirements in the trait of extroversion, lead me to do so. I became the individual whom explained to those around me just…

Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition caused by inflammation of the thick, fibrous band of tissue (''fascia'') that reaches from the heel to the toes. This fascia is responsible for supporting the muscles and arch of the foot. The plantar fascia is made of three distinct parts: medial, central, and lateral bands. The central band is the thickest and strongest and is most likely involved in plantar fasciitis pain. Tiny tears are created on the surface of the fascia when it's stretched too far causing inflammation and pain. In addition to inflammation and pain, the stress on the muscles and ligaments from plantar fasciitis can cause heel spurs. There isn't a single treatment for plantar fasciitis, but physical therapy utilizes several tools…

Through the years, I have come to realize that it is not necessarily the case. When I came here to this country to work, I got to meet many people who I have come to admire in their pursuit and success in living a well-balanced family and professional life. Then I said to myself, “It is not easy but very possible.”…
