Fitzgerald illustrates his novel by demonstrating how Nick perceived “the Great Gatsby” by creating images for the readers to get a better feel of the story. He appeals to the readers visual imagination in order to let them know that Gatsby always had everything
in shape until now, “ the grass on his lawn had grown as long as mine.” By creating an image in the audience’s minds they now have a more in depth perception of how Nick really feels about Jay. With the audience now having a better view of things they understand that Nick felt sad and abandoned .
Fitzgerald utilizes his imagination by using a lot of vivid and obscure adjectives to reveal Nick’s sentimental views of Gatsby. He demonstrates how Nick once viewed Gatsby and how he feels towards him now by saying, “ I spent my Saturday nights in New York because of those gleaming, dazzling parties.” Also by saying, “ I could still hear the music and the laughter fain and incessant from his garden” one can imply that the party is over. By using such adjectives to describe Nick’s feelings the audience now has a greater comprehension of that. This enhances our perception of how strong or melancholic Nick’s attitude was towards Gatsby.
