In Alfred Lubrano’s article titled “The Shock of Education: How College Corrupts”, he claims that students who are going into college are most likely to grow more separate to their family as they achieve higher education. He explains how the working class families seem to grow more apart from their children due to the differences in their education, compared to a middle class families with children going off to college. Coming from a working class family, he describes his own experiences and struggles he faced keeping his family and education balanced. As Lubrano mentions college students can start drifting away from their family, but in contrast to what he believes in not all contact is lost and ends up badly. Most working class parents would actually want their children to achieve a higher education than they had received. They would even be proud of their children becoming someone with a career and would most likely support them to do well in school. Even though working class parents may not fully understand a college students struggle or how college works, most of them would understand that they shouldn’t stand in their child’s dreams or want to receive higher educated. And children that come from a working class family may not have all the resources a middle class child has, but they would have learned a lot lessons from coming from a working class family. For example, a working class child can see how hard his/her parents work and can use that as an inspiration to achieve something higher in life and help out their parents so they would not work as much. It all depends on how the college student views their relationship between school and their family and willingness in keeping both
