“2B” says the disembodied voice from the intercom, echoing against the colorless brick walls of the classroom. The wooden door opens to show Sister Mary John, a woman of seventy years, walking in to call us to lunch. Sister usually wore the typical nun outfit to school – long black dress and hood which only exposed the face – but today was Student Appreciation Day 2003 (I am 8-years-old), which meant all the students would eat hamburgers and hotdogs outside. Sister, wanting to avoid the heat, decided to exchange her outfit for clothing better suited for the Texas heat (e.g. light colored shirt, shorts, and hat).…
Even though their employers didn't care about them and the bosses felt that if the children wanted to eat they had to work.Child labor is unfair and should have never happened because it was dangerous for the children to work in factories and coal-mines and they worked in the factories and coal-mines all day long.…
As a final assessment for our Tomboy Bride unit, you will choose one of the following topics and write an expository essay about Harriet, the protagonist of the story. For those looking for a challenge, I will also allow students to come up with their own topic, as long as it is broad enough to write 4-5 paragraphs and explores a theme in the story. This must be cleared with Ms. Hanna before you start any planning or writing.…
Clothing for women usually consisted of gowns, underclothing, corsets, hats, ruffs, collars and shoes. Men wore doublets, underclothing, breeches, ruffs, collars, hats and shoes. Rich women also wore thick petticoats and on top of this came the corset and skirts. Their skirts really long often touching the ground and were girded tightly arounf the waist with bands or ribbons and were often padded at the hips.…

Ryan shows how mothers think they know what is best for their children, but in reality, the mother might be making the biggest mistake ever. Ryan tries to show that everyone is fit for something. Even though the daughter did not get accepted to the school, she could have done something else. To prove her point Ryan writes, “I know this flies in the face of American ideals. But the reality is that all men and women are not created equal. Like or not, the ethereal, elongate body that can float on air is part of the look and feel of classical ballet” (82-83). Every individual has a different type of body, and ballet has specific requirements. To elaborate, if the San Francisco Ballet School does not follow these requirements, then it will no longer be considered an outstanding ballet school. Which shows when Keefer decided to sue the school because; in her opinion the school was wrong for not accepting her daughter Fredrika. Ryan proves that the school has the right to reject her. Ryan also points out the fact that, the daughter is too young to be going to all those kinds of issues. Ryan states, “Having written extensively about the damaging pressure on young female gymnast and figure skates, I understand Keefer’s concern about body type. But for me, the more disturbing issue is this story isn’t about weight but age” (83). Ryan believes that Fredrika is too young to be going through all this trouble, but Keefer thinks otherwise. Ryan is showing the mother is not thinking about the child well-being, but the daughters success only, which is wrong. A mother has to think about every aspect of a child’s life. On the other hand, Kix shows how Hip-Hop has lost its value. Some people might think Hip-Hop has changed for the best, in Kix’s view Hip-Hop has changed for the worst. Kix states, “Look, I’m not confused or annoyed by hip-hop, like older rock…
Due to the implications of gender identity in providing real and directly supported conclusions, philosophical and psychological theories will be referred to throughout the conclusions of gender. According to research, approximately one in two thousand cases, a baby's genital appearance poises the question: ‘is it a boy or a girl?’ so why make fashion any different (Kitzinger and Wilkinson, 1999)…
Whether it was a wonderful experience or a terrible one, if you went to your high school senior prom, I am sure that it was a night to remember. For so many teenagers the prom is the highlight of high school. It is the one thing so many students look forward to. Many see it as a rite of passage into adulthood. For Amy L. Best, the author of "Prom Night: Youth, Schools, and Popular Culture", the prom is a perfect opportunity to explore teen identity and individuality. It is also a place to look at how this event speaks so much about today's kids.…

I disagree with the school dress code because it doesn't allow people to express themselves, people can't dress for the weather, and it doesn't let people choose how they want to look because it's supposedly a distraction. The dress code is "The bottom of your shirt must at least meet the top of your pants or shorts, and undergarments should not be exposed. There must be a substantial covering over both shoulders. See-through clothing or clothing that is so very tight that it draws attention to oneself are also unacceptable. Shorts/skirts must have at least a 4" inseam."…
Three cookies with a small slip of paper lay at the end of the table. “How about we split this meal’s acquittance?”, stated Kim. The bill was only fifty-one dollars with sixty-nine cents, so I had no problem slashing it. Tomorrow would be the greatest adventure our group will ever have. Of course, Jack, Oliver, and Mike will join us. By us, I mean Kim, Harper and I. And right about now I should be telling you a brief explanation of what my friends are like, so here we go. Kim is always tight with money she’s always spending and her debt account rates are increasing. The thing I like about Kim is that she is cunning with fashion, literally, everything she wears defines herself and always has outstanding appearance anywhere.…
* She would go store to store looking for dresses that caught her attention, that shined. Looking for beautiful materials and brightly colored dresses. Looking for something that will make everyone else jealous.…
