What is it about horror movies that most of us find satisfying? Is it the suspense of not knowing what will happen next? Perhaps it is the blood and gore that some of us crave. No matter what the reason, all of the claims stated above due to the fact that we are all mentally ill in our own ways. Stephen King introduced the claim that we are all mentally ill in his essay, “Why We Crave Horror Movies” (1). King accurately claims that we, the human species have something dark lurking within each and one of us, it is just hidden under our civilized skin.
Darkness, silence, just yourself and the film (at least you think you're alone). When you're in the theatre by yourself your civilized side is gone and the darkness arises.
