Summary: The Giver
The sled, sped downhill, getting faster every second. In addition, at the far end of this hill, there were trees blocking his way. Clearly getting out of hand, a baby and a boy falling to his death. Fully aware of risk, there is only one way to escape from crashing into the forest. And the choice is to jump off the sled, but the memory of breaking a leg stung Jonas. However, this is a choice of now or never, with no turning around. For Gabe, and his promise to The Giver. With a decision in mind, Jonas wrapped his arms tightly around the baby Gabriel, pretending his body had become a force field. Closing his eyes to embrace him, he leaned back with all his weight. The sled flipped upside down over Jonas, catapulting him onto the soft deadening snow. Jonas rolled downhill in the snow, until …show more content…

Across the agriculture field is an animal tall and elegant… the memory returned to him of what it is, a snow-leopard. Suddenly the leopard roared loudly that it rattled the river. Covering his ears from the sound to block the sound…

“Finally someone woke up, I wonder if your head hit too hard.” The man commented when Jonas stood up.
“Who are you? What is this place? What happen? Whom am I?” Jonas asked the man, still observing the

I have recently read the novel The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and watched the movie Pleasantville. These works focus on making perfect societies. The Giver is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a community with many rules. He is assigned the job of the Receiver of Memory and goes through great amounts of pain and happiness during his training. Pleasantville is about David and his sister Jennifer who goes into their TV to a show called Pleasantville. This town is supposedly peaceful and pleasant. Although The Giver and Pleasantville are both about perfect societies, their characters, setting and the symbolism establishing their greater involvement.…

For years and years, people have said that before someone dies, their life flashes before them. You see everyone you love and care about, and all of your memories. That is what is called a near-death experience. In The Giver by Lois Lowry, there are many theories that Jonas dies and so does Gabriel. There are reasons why people would think that, such as the weather or lack of food, or maybe Jonas’ injuries.…

My level was definitely not ready for the diamonds, blues were my style, not too easy but not too hard. The lift up must of taken at least 45 minutes. The air blowing on you when you are already as cold as a snowman made me feel frigid. The trees swaying in the air and the smell of hot cocoa as we passed a rest stop on the hill. I was so anxious to get to the bottom and sit in a warm room, but excited to show my moves. When we got to the top we realized we had gone up the wrong lift, and that meant the only way down was the black diamonds. Furious, I knew that I was not going to enjoy the way down. “You knew didn’t you?” Blaming everyone around me. Then starting down the slope, falling at least twice every minute. My face was red and I was unable to see anything, the fear of frostbite overtook me because I was so cold. Just waiting for this to be over with! Tress appeared out of nowhere and snow made its way through my gloves. My hands were as cold as a witch’s heart. I must of made it down after 400 hours of tears and madness. When we got down to the base of the mountain there was Sam and my Dad waiting to go to lunch. My stomach was not up for it after tossing and turning. I just wanted to go home and be alone, so off I marched to the hotel room. Waiting for them to go down one hill and come back. I was left with an hour of heat and a hotel room all to myself. Might of sounded extravagant now, but it seemed awful at the…

“Okay. Everyone can go one last time.” my dad told us. I was glad though because the wind was howling and it was a toe numbing kind of cold. I stood watching my brothers racing down the hill. The wind was blowing even harder and snow was kicking up[. I put the goggles over my eyes so I couldn’t feel it. When it was my turn, I was thinking Okay. This is your last run. Make it count! I mounted onto the plastic sled one last time. Pulled my scarf up and my swimming goggles over my eyes. I was ready.…

The Giver movie and the Giver novel were very different. This is most likely because the Giver book was released in 1993 and the movie was made in 2014. First, the movie depicts the characters to look like they are eighteen or nineteen, in the book they are only twelve. Also, in the movie Jonas begins to see beyond like in the book, except he sees yellow, unlike in the book where he sees red. In addition to that, a more important difference would be that in the move Ashers´ job is drone pilot and he plays a much bigger role. In the novel, he is the director of recreation and he doesn't do anything important. Finally, in the movie, Fiona almost gets released because she helped Jonas leave. In the novel, Jonas does not receive help from Fiona…

I open the car door and, without warning, get smacked in the face by the cold, crisp air of the mountains. The pile of thick clothes falling off my lap reminds me that I need to bundle up in order to stay warm. After strapping on my bulky boots, I pull my skis out of the car and start trudging through the snow towards the cabin-like lodge where I will purchase the permit that will give me access to this massive, snow covered rock.…
