Superhero or Vigilante?
Superhero’s, vigilante’s, what are they? Who are they? Are they real or imaginary?
Superheros are imaginary characters with superhuman powers such as Superman or Spiderman. Whereas vigilantes are members of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the law enforcement is thought to be inadequate. A prime example of a super hero is superman who uses his powers to protect the city and disguises his identity on a regular basis. An example of a vigilante is the members in the series “Kickass”. His super power (or curse) is to instead of seeing time as past, present and future, he sees it all at once. He also has the power to arrange and rearrange atoms, to teleport, and he is immortal. He was once a normal man who went by the name Jon Osterman, until a laboratory accident occurred that changed him to a blue super being.
Is Doctor Manhattan really a super hero though and does he have the right to determine peoples fate all by himself? Does anyone (superhero, vigilante or even normal person) really have the right to determine the fate of people and decided whether they should pay for their crimes or not? According to the democratic views in American, no; several people on a jury should decide people’s fate after harsh crimes. To many it is only fair with several inputs weather someone dies or lives for certain crimes. Because a single persons can be biases so I personally feel the same way.
Doctor Manhattan tells us a lot about today society. When he is used to defeat and win the Vietnam War it shows that our society depends on weapons greatly and has no problem with war as long as we win. He also is seen like a god most of the time because of his supernatural powers. Showing that today in society if someone is strong enough we will see them as an almighty god, even when they are not. We are constantly seeking something super human that we can believe in and follow rather than believing in our own view points and
