Supervisor Application Research Paper
Audrey has been with Vroman’s for roughly a year and a half. In this time, I have seen her confidence grow exponentially. Several months ago, Audrey was promoted to Supervisor in the Card & Gift Department. In this time, she has done quite well. Audrey demonstrates considerable poise in all situations. She is well liked by both customers and employees, and has been able to establish friendly relationships, while still maintaining professional boundaries. A few days into her start as a Supervisor I had an unexpected family emergency, and had to leave work for a few weeks. Audrey had the disadvantage of taking over after having just been promoted without having any leadership experience or a manager to guide her. However, with the help of her …show more content…
She has won the monthly jewelry contest numerous times in a row. I appreciate the skills that Audrey brings to the department. As a supervisor, I need Audrey to take them to the next level. Part of excellent customer service is making sure that the department is in top shape and presentable at all times. Over the holidays, a senior manager observed several large boxes under the tables in the department. When Audrey was asked about them she explained that they were “there because there was nowhere else to put them.” Having large boxes under the tables is unsightly and takes away from the overall ambiance that we are trying to convey to our customers – especially around the holidays. In the future, it would have been a better idea to put the boxes in one of the …show more content…
Last year, she created a way to streamline the “product of the day” by having every department use identical small chalkboards and display them in visible locations. Staff and managers loved this idea and Audrey was praised for her ingenuity. Recently, Audrey thought of a new way to fix the constant issue of finding merchandise on the floor without a label. She noticed that the merchandise is often returned at the registers without labels, and then put in our go-backs bins. When we are doing go-backs, we sometimes miss that they do not have labels, and they end up back on the floor. Audrey solved this problem by creating a dedicated go-backs bin for non-labeled merchandise. Again, everyone loved this idea and the bin is quite full at the end of each day. I appreciate Audrey’s creativity and encourage her to continue to think outside of the box and come up with more ways to fix problems that she sees. Audrey has shown considerable skill in supervision and leadership. In the coming year, I need Audrey to use these skills to increase sales. One way that she can do this is improving her hand-selling skills and in turn, training staff to hand sell. Another way of increasing sales is encourage staff to write more shelf-talkers. Shelf-talkers are a great tool that we use to give customers a glimpse into our favorite books and products at the store. They are especially helpful for the customers who may not be comfortable asking

    1. Start by developing a recruitment guide like that shown in Exhibit 5.3 in the textbook. Note that the current situation differs from the example provided in the book because there is no specific timeline for hiring; this is a continuous recruiting effort because even as positions are being filled, new positions are becoming available. It is also different because Tanglewood does not have a specific list of minimal educational requirements as qualifications.…

She binds the young daughter’s feet, which is a daunting task for both the daughter and O-lan because of the pain it causes, while continuing to work in the field. On page 30, the text stated, “They worked on, moving together-together-producing the fruit of this earth -speechless in their movement together.” Furthermore, after O-lan had given birth to a child, she immediately went back in the fields to work. On page 40, it said, “And then, almost before one could realize anything, the woman was back in the fields beside him.” This exemplifies how O-lan and the earth have similar roles in the story.…

Mr. Harrison’s research covering a 12-month period of the school’s supply management activity revealed that $57,000 was spent for office supplies—and that the requisitioning, invoicing, and related check issuing frequency for these purchases was uneconomical. Mr. Harrison discovered that much of the time spent maintaining the office supply store involved mailroom personnel. Their daily responsibilities included putting away items received, filling campus orders, and pricing each item for accounting. Since most standard items were held in inventory, supplies…

First Union Federal is a large savings and loan banking organization at which Meg Rabb has been employed with since she was 18. Meg has been recently promoted to Vice President of her division after serving the last five years as assistant V.P. At the time Meg was hired as an assistant V.P. there had not been a single female in the position of V.P. After a week in her new position, Meg was notified by her boss Dan Cummings that she would be moving into a new office. After three weeks of construction, Meg’s office was complete; however, only a day after settling in, Meg was summoned to her boss’ office yet again. She was informed that the First Union president had performed a walkthrough of the building and ruled that Meg’s office was too large and would have to be torn down and rebuild from the current 12 feet by 12 feet specifications down to the new 10 feet by 10 feet specifications outlined in the new regulations. Meg was angry and questioned herself how this would effect and damage her department’s morale, and how she could possibly lose the respect from her peers she worked so hard to earn. Meg also wondered if this had to do with her being a woman in a position of power – especially when her promotion came after an intervention from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC discovered that First Union did not have any female executives at or above the level of V.P. prior to Meg’s promotion and encouraged First Union to seek out qualified female candidates for promotion to executive status.…
