Fishing with surface baits is both an exciting and very productive method for catching carp. On many waters, it's often an under-used tactic, which is a big mistake, because some of this country's biggest and most sought-after carp are often caught on surface baits at this time of the year. Even if the lake that you are targeting has been hammered on floaters and the carp are starting to wise up to the approach, often a change to an alternative floating hook bait is all that is required for continued success.
Dog and cat biscuits are the number one choice for most surface anglers and very effective they are too. But what if we are looking for something a bit different to that being used by other anglers? In my opinion, …show more content…
Pour the mixture into the lined baking tin and carefully level off with a ruler or spatular, the ideal thickness of the cake is around 1-1.5 cm.
5. Place in a pre heated oven (180 C) and bake for around an hour until the mixture is cooked right through.
6. Allow the cake to cool, remove from the tin and carefully peel off the foil.
7. Chop up the cake into cubes of the required size and then freeze ready for use. Simple!
For added attraction on days when the carp are feeling a bit spooky or reluctant to suck down floaters, prior to casting out, the floater cake hook bait and free offerings can be dipped in a conventional boilie dip. Oil based dips are the best choice for this particular application, as products of this type will float on the surface. This creates masses of attraction, which often leads to heavy, prolonged and competitive feeding, which increases the chance of a fish making a mistake with the hook bait.
FLOATING HEMP.
Another way of creating competitive surface feeding is to combine floater cake with floating hemp. Floating particle baits can often switch the carp into an absolute feeding frenzy, which again increases the chances of that all important hook bait being sucked down.
