Television is one of our world’s most important means of communication. It shows us information programs, like the news, documentaries, and sports events. We can watch films, listen to interviews and hear the sounds of events that happen far away. Television teaches us about countries and cultures and we can enjoyentertainment, like series, comedies, game shows or sitcoms.
A television set can be used for other things as well. You can record shows and films for later viewing, play video games, watch DVDs, or even browse the Internet.
Television has been influencing our lives since it was developed over 80 years ago. It is an important way of spending our free time and shapes people’sopinions about various issues.

Nowadays, television has become the most popular media of human kind. It’s also the indispensable device in our daily life. By watching TV , we can see many things happened in the surrounding us world , therefore it help us to catch and avoid being dropped back from the world of information. Everyone must agree that the advantages of watching TV are very considerable .But beside those benefits , there are some disadvantages that we must notice to be sure that we watch TV most effectively.

Beginning from the first one, I must say that television is one of the most important invention in transforming information history . From very long ago, people had already known how to transform information in many different ways but only when the first television programme was broadcasted , a new age had begun , the age of image transformation. Television nowadays has been very popular, and almost every family have the access to it. By sitting ideally at home , watching TV , you can get a whole look all over the world. The appearance of television and television broadcasting enriches our entertainments . Many events and competition can be watched “live” and many exclusive movies are presented as well (although it’s a bit late in comparison with seeing those movies in the cinema) , but all are legal and you’re free to enjoy them. In addition, if you want to travel but do not have enough money, I suggest you can enjoy traveling in the TV (for example watching the discovery channel or national geography channel) , they’re screened 24/24.

Furthermore , the television deserve considered as the unlimited source of information . There are a lot of scientific channel which is suitable for all ages. Those are the fastest and cheapest way to improve your knowledge. Today, Television specializes into many channels , each channel satisfies the different audience’s view such as news , sport, and film . So that, we do not have to be a passive viewer. By pressing several simple buttons , you can see your appropriate programme that fit your taste.

Everything contains good side and bad side and television has no exception . Wasting time is one of the inherent disadvantage of watching TV. Let’s imagine : if one day , one person spends a hour watching TV without gaining any useful information , then in one year he will waste 365 hours and in 10 year is 3605 hours. With that time , you can learn several language as well as finish some studying course. On the other hand , television programme are not always suitable for all ages.Sometimes , there are some movies contain sexual material and violence which affected the stormy phase of growing of children and teenagers and should not be watched ,even by some adults. It will be extremely dangerous if parents neglect their children to discover the TV programme themselves as they will immediately take influence of what they see . To rectify this situation , parents must supervise their children ‘s TV watching throughout their childhood and adolescence period. In the aspect of health , spending hours watching TV is harmful to your eyesight . Why don’t play some sport and breathe the fresh air .When your eyes are tired , you ‘d better let them rest than continue to paste them in the screen.

In my summary, I have reached a conclusion that nowadays, television is indispensable Although it will be replaced by computer someday, but TV’s benefit to our life sill guarantee it as the most important device which people need , in order to be up-to-date.

These days, watching TV is quite common habit for young people. Especially children like watching television and spend over time sitting in front of it. However, there are both pros and cons to do this indoor activity. In further paragraphs I will point out both sides and try to draw some conclusions.
I will start by looking at the superiorities for young generation of television. One of the main positives is that it makes them cleverer and helps to create fast-paced brainstorm. What I mean by this is that there are a lot of educational and interactive programs. By watching documentaries and adventure ones they can broaden their horizons. Secondly, there are also recreational programs that consist of films and cartoons which juveniles do like and want to watch them every day. They can learn and understand human dignity by seeing movies which show good and bad attitudes of people and make also conclusions about them for audience.
Turning to the other side of the argument, staring at TV set for several hours can lead negative effects. Many teenagers who spend much time for watching TV might feel a bit sense of isolation, because this is inner action and there are no interactive relationships with their friends or others. Another issue is that it can affect their health. For instance, it may harm their eyesight due to over-watching. In addition, it can also lead no physical exercises that are very important for their well-being and growing-up period. Moreover, we cannot always see useful programs and there is nonsense ones as well which are waste of time.
Having looked at both sides, television is full of profitable information. We need to form right timetable to recline in front of TV for our children. Personally, I believe the benefits in terms of watching television outnumbered any drawbacks.

Harmful Effects of Television on Children

Is television harmful to children? I think television is harmful to children, but I mostly think that it isn't. There are many shows and movies on television that are harmful to children, but there are also many television shows and movies that are not. The biggest influence that television has on children is the violence. Many people think that kids do violent things because they see it on television. For example, I read that one child started to kick his brother because he saw it on television wrestling. When they asked him why he kicked his brother, he said it was cool and he would get up right away just like on television. Now just because there are incidents like that, doesn't mean you can stop the children from watching television. If you were to stop them from watching television, you might as well let them stop listening to some type of music. It is not just shows like wrestling that influence children. I think one of mostnegative influence to children is the news. They keep showing the same things over and over again. For example, after the school shooting in Colorado, the news kept going back to it again and again and again. There were many shootings right after that one.
I think I am a good example of how television has influenced children. When I was in India there were not too many shows to watch. Only on Sundays did I watch some friendly cartoons. I was one of the top students in my class. I was not forced to any violence or had been a victim to. Then we moved to America. If it was not television I would have not learned English so fast. I watched television shows whenever I had time. Even my teacher told me to watch television so I can improve my English. Now I watch all sorts of shows and movies and I have not changed much. Even though I watch more television than I used to I still behave the same.
There are also many shows that help children improve their skills. For example, Sesame Street teaches kids how to read and write. Its main focus is to help kids. There are many other shows like this that are focused to help kids. Even though some television is harmful to children the majority of it wants to help.
Many people also think that television has a negative effect on the children's education. I think that television is a tool of education for children. It helped me a lot. It is the responsibilities of the parents to control what their children watch. Maybe some of these children act violently because they have seen violence in their home and not on television. I think that television has the most influence on children than more than anything else, so we should use that in favor for use. There has not been any evidence that television affects the education of children.
If you want to stop them from watching television, you must stop them from doing everything else that might be harmful them. We should use these technological advances in our favor to help the children.
I have reached the conclusion that even though television has a bad effect on children, it has even a more of a good effect.

Watching TV is Bad for Children (Argumentative Essay)

Today, people of different races and generations become victims of TV addiction. Some people watch television because they want to be updated about what is happening in the world. They want to be aware and get connected with different people all around the globe. Nowadays, not only adults and teenagers, but also children, get hooked on television. Because of the busy world people are living in today, parents do not have time to take care and look after their children at all times anymore. Therefore, children have more freedom to do whatever they want, and in this case, watch whatever TV show they want – be it classified as GP, PG-13, or even R-18. It can not be avoided that children will see violent scenes shown on TV since according to K.D. Browne, an average of 20-25 violent acts are shown in CHILDREN’S television programs each hour. (Children and Media Violence, n.d.) Since, exposure to violence causes aggressiveness, trauma, and desensitization, watching TV is bad for children.

Researchers have found that children are more aggressive after watching violent TV shows. This is because children’s minds are not yet that completely developed, that is why they are not fully capable of distinguishing right from wrong. Most children just tend to believe and imitate everything they see, even on TV. Especially when they see the celebrity they idolize do violent acts, children will most probably imitate him or her. Laboratory experiments back in 1963 by professors A. Badura, D. Ross, and S.A. Ross have consistently shown that exposures to violence leads to increased heartbeat, blood pressure, and respiration rate, which motivates the child to act violently and aggressively. (What the Researchers Are Saying, n.d.)

Watching TV is nearly equal to watching violence. Based from the Television Violence Monitoring Project, 96% of TV shows contain violence which can also mean that out of 20 times of watching TV,...
Watching television is an experience shared by most adults and children. It is cheap, appealing and within the reach of the general public. In this way TV has become an important media around the world. Sadly this resource isn’t used in a way that people could get the best possible benefits from it. The purpose of this essay is to persuade the reader that people shouldn’t watch too much television because the content of many TV programs is not educational; it makes people waste time that could be used in more beneficial activities; and it negatively affects people’s mental development. The first reason why people shouldn’t watch too much television is because the content of many TV programs is not educational. Nowadays we can see movies, series, and shows that present scenes of violence, and drugs. This has established wrong concepts among the audience that influence them into having a negative behavior. Moreover the impact this tendency has on children is worse because they grow up with the idea of a world where women must be slender and blonde to stand out, where problems can only be solved with money and violence, and where wars are inevitable. The second reason why people shouldn’t watch too much television is because it makes people waste time that could be used in more beneficial activities. The time we spend watching TV could be applied to useful activities like exercise, reading, interacting with friends and family, activities that are a crucial for a healthy lifestyle. The third reason why people shouldn’t watch too much television is because it negatively affects people’s mental development. According to several scientific studies, watching TV for prolonged periods of time has a negative effect over the intellectual development of children and leads to deterioration of the mental capacity in older people by causing both attention and memory problems in the long term. In conclusion, people shouldn’t...
Television is a modern media which brings to us many benefits. Besides,it also causes several negative effects. According to a recent survey, a child watches television more than 4 hours / day, and they are very hard to change this habit. It is very harmful. Children watching TV too much can face to many diseases and other psychological problems as clarified in the following essay The first harmful from watching TV too much is that it can reduce the ability of concentration and awareness. Actually, watching television causes many serious effect to the child’s focus that is not good at the development of their body and mind.. Symptoms such as impulsive behavior, reduced concentration, hyperactivity ... usually begin to appear when the child reach school age. It will lead to a series of serious consequences on the psychological and mental health such as lack of concentration, impulsive behavior and violence. In addition, watching TV too much will affect child's reading ability.

The second negative effect of watching TV is that it can make the health of children bad. Children watching television more than two hours a day increases the risk of becoming obese (17%), cardiovascular system problems (15%) and increases cholesterol in the blood (15 %).Besides, according to research by British scientists, if the children watch TV more than 2 hours per day, they will have asthma risk twice higher than other children who watch TV less than 2 hours per day. The scientists discovered when the children spend hours eyes on TV screen or computer, their retinal blood vessels will be narrowed .

The final harmful is that children watch TV to much can only get the one-way information. In fact, they may have good comprehension but no reflection back that causes they are slow to speak. Delayed language development will lead to mental retardation in the absence. In the kindergarten, children can approach the numbers and music programs for children, but they must...

watching cartoons and entertainment television during pre-school years have poorer pre-reading skills at age 5 (Macbeth, 1996). Also, kids who watch entertainment TV are also less likely to read books and other print media (Wright & Huston, 1995). According to Speech and language expert Dr. Sally Ward, 20 years of research show that kids who are bombarded by background TV noise in their homes have trouble paying attention to voices when there is also background noise. Kids who watch a lot of TV have trouble paying attention to teachers because they are accustomed to the fast-paced visual stimulation on TV. Kids who watch TV more than they talk to their family have a difficult time adjusting from being visual learners to aural learners (learning by listening). They also have shorter attention spans. School kids who watch too much TV also tend to work less on their homework. When doing homework with TV on the background, kids tend to retain less skill and information. When they lose sleep because of TV, they become less alert during the day, and this results in poor school performance. TV exposes your kid to negative influences, and promotes negative behavior. TV shows and commercials usually show violence, #######, #### use and ### in a positive light. The mind of your kid is like clay. It forms early impressions on what it sees, and these early impressions determine how he sees the world and affect his grown-up behavior. For instance, twenty years of research has shown that children who are more exposed to media violence behave more aggressively as kids and when they are older. They are taught by TV that violence is the way to resolve conflict – as when a TV hero beats up a bad guy to subdue him. Kids who watch too much TV are usually overweight, according to the American Medical Association. Kids often snack on junk food while watching TV. They are also influenced by commercials to consume unhealthy food. Also, they are not running, jumping, or doing activities that burn calories and increase metabolism. Obese kids, unless they change their habits, tend to be obese when they become adults. Researchers from the University of Sydney report a link between total screen time and retinal artery width in children. Kids with lots of screen time were found to have narrow artery in their eyes, which may indicate heart risk. TV watching also affects a child’s health and athletic ability. The more television a child watches, even in the first years of life, the more likely he is to be obese and less muscularly fit, according to a study by the University of Montreal. Even though your kid does not aspire to be a football star, his athletic abilities are important not only for physical health, but predicting how physically active he will be as an adult. Good effects of Tv on children Some TV shows can educate, inform and inspire. It can be more effective than books or audiotapes in teaching your kid about processes like how a plant grows or how to bake a cake. Studies show that kids who watch educational and non-violent children’s shows do better on reading and math tests than those who do not watch these programs. Kids who watch informative and educational shows as preschoolers tend to watch more informative and educational shows when they get older. They use TV effectively as a complement to school learning. On the other hand, kids who watch more entertainment program watch fewer informative programs as they get older (Macbeth, 1996). Preschoolers who viewed educational programs tend to have higher grades, are less aggressive and value their studies more when they reach high school, according to a long-term study (Anderson, et. al, 2001). Finally, scientists from the University of Siena found that children experience a soothing, painkilling effect by watching cartoons. So perhaps, a little entertainment TV can be a source of relief to kids who are stressed or are in pain.

Television
The United States is the largest consumer of television programming. In 1948, there were barely 100,000 television sets in use in the United States. According to Carter & Strickland
(1975), by 1973, 96% of homes had one or more television sets, and the average set was estimated to be turned on for more than six hours a day. It is estimated that there are more television sets in the United States than there are telephones, or even toilets (Bushman & Huesmann,
2001). Today, 99% of homes have a television.
Children born in the United States have the potential of being exposed to television at almost the moment of birth, viewing television for the rest of their lives, and interacting regularly with other viewers of television (Abeles, 1980). Children also spend more time watching television than they do attending school. According to Carter and Strickland (1975), for most children, television occupies many more hours than school during their first sixteen years. In the 1990s, daily television viewing for children ages 6 to 18 has increased 70%. The average viewing time for elementary school students is 25 hours a week. By age five, the average child has received 6,000 hours of programming (Sanders, 1994).

“The Golden Age of Television” brought many changes to America (Bhattacharyya). Modern America is not like America was in the 1940s and early 1950s, and one reason is because of television. Musical shows, children’s shows, movies, news, and so much more are on TV. Television doesn’t only entertain us, but it helps us in so many ways. We can learn from TV. Different educational channels are created to help us learn (Cochrane). TV is a way for us to get information, too, just like books and the Internet. Lastly, television can also affect people and their lives. Before TV, there was more interaction between people (www.printmoment.com). Today, there is not as much interaction and communication between people. As you can see, television helped shape modern America by helping people learn, affecting people’s lives, and brining new ways to broadcast information to Americans.…

Generally, television remains the most popular form of entertainment in the United States of America (Huston 1993). In as much as the industry, the technology, and the audience has changed over history, its social, political, and cultural influence remains significant to date. However, debate still exists as to whether television is good or bad for the American society. This article has poured much light on the significance of television in American society. As people living in the 21st century, we find ourselves awash within a constant alleged entertainment and information. Like any other resource, the issue of whether television is a good or a bad thing relies on how human beings utilize it, of which in most occasions depend on what kind of an individual one has been brought up to be (Hillstrom & McNeill 2007).…
