Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekanand was born in Calcutta on 12 January 1863 to a lawyer family. He was called Narendranath in his childhood. He was brilliant in his studies from his childhood. He was disciple of Guru Ramkrishna Paramhansa. He had a significant role in the spread of Hinduism and Hindu culture worldwide. His speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago on Hinduism had stunned the entire audience. Vivekanand advocated that man of all religions must assimilate the spirit of others and yet preserve his own individuality and grow according to his own law of growth. Vivekanand made an in-depth study of both Indian and Western philosophy and had a command of them. He established the Ramkrishna Mission with an objective to refine and spread Hindu culture. Through this mission the weaknesses of Hindu religion were severely criticised. He even travelled the entire country on foot for his objective. On 4 July 1902 he met his death.

Hinduism is believed to have immigrated to America around the late 1800’s. Its influence on America and American culture and its peoples has been pervasive and varied. It was first introduced to mostly Christian America at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair at The Parliament of the World’s Religions by Swami Vivekananda (Guthrie 2). Since that time his descendants have grown so as to include indigenous Americans as well as many new arrivals from all over the world. Hinduism has impacted American culture in the areas of religion, literature, music, and philosophy, and most importantly, in the minds and souls of its American converts. And, in turn, America has also had a profound impact on Hinduism.…

    American Revolution Essay

An influence of the revolution was the French and Indian War (www.echeat.com) In 1764; British troops fought a hard 7-year war against the French and Native American soldiers. The Natives teamed up with France and the war ended in about 1763 (kidport.com). After the war, this left Britain heavily in debt. As an after affect, the British started taxing the colonists on all sorts of things. The taxing caused anger and hatred against the king and the colonists were furious. The colonials wanted to separate themselves from England and become their own independent country. They were sick and tired of all the restrictions that the king had forced upon them. Between all the new taxes and the Proclamation of 1763, the colonists were acting up and causing trouble for the Britain’s. This changed the ‘relationship’ between Great Britain and the colonists but also, these were the things that sparked the thoughts of revolting. When the Boston Tea Party took place, it was the “last stick on the pile.” It was the main cause/ the push of the American Revolution that triggered the people’s fuse.…

One of India's most important men in history was Mahatma Gandhi. In this interpretation I wish to discuss Mahatma Gandhi's writing's on India's Independence. As discussed in "Indian Home Rule" written in 1909. Born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi but known as Mahatma Gandhi lived from the year 1869 to the year 1948. He was the primary leader for India's independence and one of the most successful users of civil disobedience in history. He was a spiritual and political leader in India, and he used his position and voice to make his country better. Mahatma Gandhi believed in satyagraha or " resistance through mass non-violent civil disobedience. Satyagraha remains one of the most potent philosophies in freedom struggles throughout the world today," (bio.com) . Gandhi spent most of his life fighting for Indian Liberation from outside influences and he was assassinated trying to stop a Hindu-Muslim conflict by a Hindu fanatic on January 30, 1948. His death was unfortunate but he is remember by the world as one of the most successful spiritual leaders.…

I was eight when I first stepped onto the icy slopes where people glide side to side down the steep hills of tall mountains. Mastering the “pizza” and “fries” on the baby bunny hill, I was no Olympic skier my first time. Skiing for the first time was a chilling and daunting experience, but once I accomplished the skill of not falling, I soon fell in love. I have ventured on multiple ski trips since and each has been more exhilarating than the last. There is a true sense of freedom that some people can only imagine, standing on top of a peak, miles of emptiness all around you - no cars, buildings, or roads - just the mountain, the wind, and yourself.…

He compares Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda. Vivekananda offered ideologies that defended the West. He recognized that India’s levels and reality of poverty could not be ignored. The problem was due to India’s retrogressive spiritual beliefs that deterred economic development. He proposes that the most effective way is to modernize, rather than violating the beliefs of the Indians (Raghuramaraju, 2006). He recognizes that there is a need to adopt material civilization to create employment for the poor. He also believes that Indians have a lot that it ought to learn from their Western counterparts, especially in the economic aspect. However, he proposes that the West should also learn about the basics of the Hindu religion (Raghuramaraju, 2006, pp.47). This mutual balance is the best way to create a beneficial association where the West can bring economic growth to the East and the latter can offer religious knowledge to the former.…

India has given birth to several Hindu religious reformers along with influential spiritual personalities who have contributed to build the nation. They have all stressed upon the fact that India is avowedly the most notable country where religious introspection has fairly a long cherished history. Vivekananda is mainly considered to be an eminent figure among the others for making Hindu religion popular among the people of the West. He has always been eager to look into all other religious doctrines in order to broaden the mental horizon and support the ideals of religious tolerance. He has a firm conviction that no nation can progress without possessing an inherently strong religiosity. As an Indian monk he never has any reservations against…
