This paper I will discuss the SWOT analysis of McKendree University. It has been said that the time given to achieve a class while at this university is not lengthy and is a disadvantage. However, the university offers different professional programs to develop students within the allotted time and still create a culture of experiences and campus life beyond the classroom. This would also create an environment supportive of attending McKendree University after military obligations and raising a family.…

As Chief Operation Officer, I would start by reviewing the New Belgium Brewery SWOT analysis to understand the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that were identified by opening up the Asheville or Port Collins brewery locations (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The SWOT will provide detail information about a company’s “financial performance, resources, production facilities and capacity, market share, customer perceptions, product quality, economic conditions and technology” (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). One must understand the opportunities the company has faced in the past with new implementations in order to be successful in the future and not repeat the same mistakes (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The key pros and cons that I would…

Consumers considering single-cup brew coffee units are looking for convenience, ease of use, and a variety of coffee selections. For GMCR’s Keurig line of brewers, competitive rivalry exists with other single-cup brew coffee manufactures, specifically Tassimo (Kraft), Nespresso (Nestle), Senseo (Sara Lee), Flavia (Mars), and a few other niche players. Nespresso has been a tremendous success for Nestle in Europe, with organic growth of 20% in 2010 on sales on 3.53 billon (Nestle Annual Report, 2010). Pricing for coffee pods is similar on a per unit basis ranging from $0.36 to $0.87 depending on brand preference (Repanich, 2010). The brewers vary in pricing, but range from just around $100 to well over $500. At the moment, GMCR is benefiting from significant brand recognition of the Keurig product line in the United States. Keurig has over 70% of the market share, dwarfing the competitors, so much so that Starbucks dumped Tassimo, which had a mere 2%, in favor of Keurig (Helm, Jan 2011) earlier this year. Starting next year, Keurig brewers will appear in Starbucks stores, further strengthening the brand (Chase, March 2011). Starbucks research showed that more 80% of their current customers did not yet own a single-brewer system (Starbucks, March 2011), hinting at an avenue of growth. It is…

Kroger Co. as with most of its competition finds itself in a unique and challenging position to maintain market dominance while suffering the effects of a sluggish economy. While having an impressive market share in 44 markets and 31 states, the weaknesses of operating manufacturing widespread operations, open it up to contamination risk and pricing problems from within the organization that must be accounted for either at the supply or demand side. Kroger’s expansion into the finance market proved valuable in 2007 and an the opportunity to expound that success is at the…

For my taste test experiment I decided to do Starbucks vs. Dunkin’ Donuts. I am a bit of a coffee fanatic. I can always been seen with a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee in hand at least once a day. So for my experiment I decided to do my taste test experiment to compare to the two companies coffee brands. I went to Starbucks and got a Venti Caramel hot coffee with crème and then went and got a large Dunkin Donuts caramel hot coffee with crème. I decided that my sorority house is where I knew I could find plenty of willing people to participate in my blind taste test experiment. The first taste test I did was the triangle taste test. In this test I make 2 small cups of Starbucks coffee and 1 cup of small Dunkin Donuts coffee for them to try. Due to the fact that I am such a coffee fanatic I can tell the difference and figured that everyone else would be able to do that same. I was extremely surprised when several 3 of my 6 friends had chosen one DD and Starbucks coffee as being the same brand. Next, I did a paired comparison, where I put one drink in one cup and the other in the other cup. A majority actually preferred DD coffee to Starbucks. But the answers were all over the map when you asked them which coffee was which brand. Many people were unable to identify the difference between which was Starbucks and which was DD. One friend stated that she believed that Starbucks has a much bolder coffee taste compared to the more mild coffee taste of Dunkin Donuts. After doing the two Taste Test Experiments I have come to the conclusion that even thought people say that they only drink or prefer a certain brand, if you do a blind taste test they may not be able to identify the difference in the two competing brands.…

After disappointing consecutive earnings in 2015, Whole Foods is approaching new target markets by introducing the 365 by Whole Foods in 2016. The purpose is to make available fresh healthy foods to the mass market in affordable prices. The catch is to attract young consumers who want to live a healthy lifestyle and shop organic food. "We want people who don't shop at Whole Foods to shop at 365” Jeff Turnas, president, explained to Los Angeles Times. It’s a smaller store with the intention to create a long-term relationship where shoppers would look for convenience while Whole Foods purpose would still be the same, communicating value to customers. Therefore, the strategy is to place the 365 stores in “America’s Hippest Hipster Neighborhoods”…

The success of a small growing business depends on their ability to produce a good product with high quality service, in order to grow and prosper in a competitive market. They must believe in their product and foster relationships not only externally to the consumer but within their own internal workforce. The New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) believes that dedication to high involvement culture and a loving, high performing workforce sets them apart from their competition. With the birth of the company in 1991, they have created and grown an organization that is 100% employee-owned and has a goal of making world-class beers while minimizing its environmental footprint (New Belgium Brewing Company, 2014). But as with any business they are not the only ones looking to compete in the growing business of brewing beer and they must measure and address their internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as the external opportunities and threats in order to move ahead of their competition.…
