“If you ever just happen to get in trouble like you have always done before, I want you to come right here and hide in the brush.”(doc B) In the story Of Mice and Men there are two main characters, George and Lennie. George is average sized and intelligent, and Lennie is tall, very muscular, and below average. Everything is looking good until Lennie accidentally kills Curley’s wife, and Curley is a hothead. He wants to kill Lennie very painfully, but George gets there first. He has to shoot him in the back of the head. Steinbeck uses foreshadowing to indicate the deaths of the farm dream, Curley’s wife, and Lennie.…

In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck there are three characters that show person vs fate in a negative way. The book ends by George shooting Lennie at the end. In the story Of Mice and Men the author John Steinbeck uses foreshadowing to reveal many future events in the story. He uses them left and right but I am focusing on how he uses it for Curley’s wife dying, Lennie’s death, and their dream dying.…
Foreshadowing is used in several different stories to assist the reader with their predictions throughout the story. “Of Mice and Men “by John Steinbeck tells of two partners- George and Lennie- with goals to get enough money to obtain a home of their own. The two are put down by those around them. They tell them that too many other people come by with the same dream and it won’t be achieved, but they keep hope. The theme of this tale is that people who are misjudged are often mistreated. Three people in the novella that suffered mistreatment are Crooks, Lennie, and Curley’s wife.…
The author Steinbeck actually uses a lot of irony in the entire novel. One of the major irony appears in the book is the scene when George kills Lennie, because he wants to protect Lennie from other people such as Curley who might treat Lennie in a violent way. Ironically, George takes Carlson’s shotgun to kill Lennie, and this shotgun is actually the one is used for killing Candy’s dog. It is also irony since the ranch hands do not feel sympathy for Lennie’s death and the fact that George loses his best friend, although they felt sorrow for Candy loss of his old dog. Slim is the only one who notices the fact of the shooting, and he tends to comfort George by telling him “you hadda” do it. Moreover, since George and Lennie is best friend to…
Capturing the curiosity being produced by the reader, George grasps most of the attention starting as soon as his name is mentioned for the first time in the novel. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck, the author of the novel, vividly shows the development in George’s character. Both George’s compassion for the world and people around him and the way in which he controls himself change rapidly as he progresses over the three days in which the novel takes place. From dealing with Lennie’s disability to simply hold himself together on the ranch, George demonstrates how people can change and mature quickly. Many diseases and disorders were not discovered until fairly recent years. This is the case for a disorder called autism. John Steinbeck’s novel “Of Mice and Men” was set during the Great Depression, and the story portrays a man named Lennie with a disorder that people during that time did not understand, so they treated him as if he were mentally impaired. Today, Speech-Language pathologists recognize Lennie as being autistic. “Of Mice and Men” portrays the characteristics of autism and how people who were ignorant of the true disorder crudely handled the situation. This story shows readers how much progress the field of Speech-Language pathology has made in diagnosing and treating people who suffer from autism.…

Good morning Ms Bloch and 9 Blue. Today I’m going to be talking to you about how hands are used symbolically throughout the novella. Steinbeck uses hands as a strong motif to help us to understand the essence of each of the characters. The men working on the ranch are called “hands” which indicates that each person has a job to do that makes the whole ranch work as a whole. This takes away their humanity and their individual personalities.…
