David had always heard the stories his parents would tell him about the golden safe.His Grandma would always bore him with banal stories of how his grandpa would spend hours each day trying to open the safe. His house had always been in his family, and since his great-great grandpa moved in, there had always been a golden safe in the closet of the basement. On one crisp fall day the air was cool and the colorful leaves flew from the trees and onto David's window. The sound of children outside laughing filled the air, but David sat in his bed thinking. He had never tried to open the safe, one try wouldn't hurt him. After all he was 8 years old and yet he had never even attempted a combination on the safe, so he made a caprice decision to go downstairs and give it a try. He checked to make sure he was home alone, just incase he couldn't open it he didn't want them to see him fail. Even though he was only 8, david would often stay home alone because he was very autonomous, so he tiptoed into the basement. The basement was unfinished,with dirt instead of a floor, and only had one dim light bulb per room hanging from the insulated ceiling.
