In a given year, more than 100,00 juveniles are arrested in Texas and referred to the probation system. Apparently, majority of juveniles do not receive the needed discipline at home. I believe corporal punishment should be allowed in the United States. Some children need the discipline, it would result in better behavior in schools and it would teach kids to have more respect for authority. First, there are numerous of children that need the discipline. “If schools were to paddle elementary students, they could start discipline early.”(Source C) Early discipline could help intervene unacceptable behavior from the very start. “Paddling is an immediate response to bad behavior. Suspending children takes too long and it would keep kids from learning”.(Source A) “There are a variety of children that behavior is out of control. One student behavior had gotten so bad that a teacher quit and moved away.”(Source A) I believe even more teachers will end up quitting due to kids’ rowdiness and disrespectful behavior. Without teachers, kids won’t be able to learn skills needed for future jobs. I understand corporal punishment could possibly cause emotional, physical, psychological and other long term effects. However, I firmly believe that corporal punishment has more benefits than detriments. Furthermore, it would teach kids to have more respect for authority. Some kids only react to physical punishment, I realize every child is not the same. Many kids can be talked to but others need to feel some form of physical reinforcement in order for them to correct their poor behaviors. I conclude that corporal punishments would also aid kids to stay out of jail. The internet estimates that the population of juveniles delinquents will continue to grow and increase each year by 10%. I have confidence in corporal punishment because some children need the discipline, it would result in better behavior in schools and it would teach kids to have more respect for authority.
