Most people grew up being spanked and they turned out alright so it seems like a good way to teach children right and wrong. However, spanking can be very bad for a child's development, it can teach them unwanted behavior and children shut down when they are being spanked. It can difficult to teach a child purely from spank, and there are other methods that parents can look into to teach a child. As state by an article by Katherine Lee, “those who support spanking children and other forms of corporal punishment argue that kids who are disciplined physically turn out just fine. But a child who is exposed to secondhand smoke may not get cancer right away, and a child who isn't secured with a seat belt isn't guaranteed to be injured or worse in a car accident, says Deborah Sendek, director for the Center for Effective Discipline,” (Katherine Lee). The argument that someone was spanked and they turned out fine is very flawed. There are a lot of criminals that were spanked and yet they still committed crimes. Many times someone who was a criminal were spanked more as a child then someone who didn’t act out and yet they still committed their crimes. Like Sendek said some one can be exposed to secondhand smoke and not get cancer but spanking affects everyone differently and what seemed to work for one person is always going to work for someone else. Overall Spanking has been showing to affect children
