other things of importance, such as issues in the United States. Because of this, my view on foreign aid has changed. It is now clear as to why the United States uses money for other countries stability. Although some people believe that foreign aid needs to only be used in the United States, the United States may benefit more from helping other countries outside of the country. Foreign aid is used for a variety of things when given to different countries. When countries are struggling, or had a recent crisis, other countries may supply them with materials until there crisis comes to a point where they are stable. According to Foreign aid for Developmental Assistance, author Anup Shah states that…
“There are numerous forms of aid, form humanitarian emergency assistance, to food aid, military assistance, etc. Developmental aid has long been recognized as crucial to help poor developing nations grow out of poverty” (Shah).
Shah informs the reader that the purpose of having foreign assistance and the benefits that other countries receive from foreign aid. In the United States, alone there are about twenty different government agencies that have established over one hundred foreign assistance programs in different countries acknowledge by the Foreign Assistance. Although foreign aid spending is being used wisely to help other countries overcome poverty, many other people believe that it is better to spend the money on issues in the United States. The amount of money used on foreign aid in the United States is a whooping one percent and still people believe that is too much money spent on foreign aid. Based on the Kaiser Family Foundation in Guess How Much of Uncle Sam Money Goes to Foreign Aid. Guess again, a poll was taking to see if people were aware of the portion of money used for foreign aid. Once made aware it was then broken down into categorizes to show what the money is going towards. The largest portion goes toward health. The next two, economic development and humanitarian assistance, tie for second place. A small amount aid in democratic elections in other countries as well as logging and training local law enforcements on combating drug trafficking (Rutsch). By breaking down the categories to show what foreign aid is spent on, people began to realize that it was being used to benefit themselves as well as those in other countries. Analyzing the information of this topic has made me more aware of the things going on in the United States regarding foreign aid. Foreign aid is…
“…given by the United States to other countries to support global peace, security, development efforts, and provide humanitarian relief during the time of crisis.”
By knowing this definition and reading other articles such as Foreign Assistance, and Guess How Much of uncle Sam Money Goes to Foreign Aid, it allowed me to understand how much of the United States money is going towards other countries.
It also broadens my view on the different categories the foreign aid money is used on. By reading this article it has now gave me a better understanding and that more money should be used on foreign aid because it is going towards a good cause to help those countries in poverty or dealing with a crisis. Since the United States has established 20 different government agencies in over one hundred different countries it has expanded America’s foreign policy interest. The United states uses about one percent or less on foreign policy out of the trillions of dollars America has, but people still believe that one percent is still too much to use on other countries. People fail to realize what the definition of foreign aid is and therefore say that the United States is using too much and should be fixing problems within the country. If people knew the definition of foreign aid they would understand that it helps those in poverty in other countries such as their health and deal with crisis that may have struck their country. If that was you in another country dealing with health issues and a crisis struck, you would want foreign assistance to provide supplies for you and your
country.
