I first thought about whether or not I thought dieting was good for a person and decided that it wasn’t good for people. Then I started to research more and found that what I believed was right. Dieting isn’t good for a person because once you lose weight; you put it back on when you stop.

I looked at my research on dieting and my research on obesity and started linking certain points together. Then I researched whether dieting was a cure for obesity and came up with a big fat NO. it seems that all my hypothesizing was right. Firstly that dieting isn’t good for a person and then when looking at dieting and obesity together, I found that it really isn’t safe to diet whilst you are obese. I predicted that by eating healthy foods and leading a healthy lifestyle you will not only cure obesity but also prevent obesity.
My extensive research was done because so many people had been against my views on dieting. I believe that that diets cause more harm than good for people, however my friends believed that dieting was the most effective way to lose our “puppy dog” fat and that dieting makes things better for people. So by doing this as a project I got to really look at the pros and cons of dieting which extended my knowledge of dieting further than what it had ever been which helps me now when I have to have the same arguments over and over again.
I now also know more about what is and isn’t good for me in terms of my mental and physical well-being.

When one is diagnosed Obese they immediately turn to dieting as their, “quick fix”. Did it ever occur to people that maybe if they just ate healthier foods and did a little more exercise they might not have even become obese in the first place?
The Sources focus on the fact that dieting doesn’t help in the long run and actually isn’t completely necessary because once you finish your diet it becomes very difficult to maintain the weight you have achieved. What the sources do however indicate to be that one should cut out the bad food they were eating and bring in the veggies and smaller portion sizes and add exercise. This points to an idea I brought up earlier, everything in moderation. You don’t need to diet. You need to eat better food. “Quick fixes” are not sustainable and so will take you straight back to your original problem.
Obesity is the disease that has singly brought about the most dietary remedies than any other disease. Everybody seems to be following these diets but nobody seems to be giving their results and opinions on them. In source A, a trail is discussed where people went on various different diets and then also looked at the regaining process afterward. The results showed that even though the regain process was slow, generally speaking, a person would regain their weight in two years.
Source B was an indication of what exactly obesity is and how bad it actually is. It gave ten reasons as to why obesity is so bad and that linked to why people go on diets to drop the weight that is causing them to be obese.
Other sources showed that diets have been around for longer than 20 years but within the last twenty years they have reached an intense high because of various reasons, but obesity being the main one.
Sources are also showing that for a person to just live a healthier lifestyle they will automatically have healthier and happier lives, which improves everything about a person. The sources say that dieting is not the way to help you or your body but by eating a healthier diet will. Another source also shows how a person can maintain their healthy eating so they don’t revert back to old habits, which is something diets do not show you how to do.
Source F shows that a diet should be considered your “everything in moderation” it shows the benefits of dieting and then also goes into detail about how it can actually be bad for you. It shows that by depriving your body of certain foods can cause your brain cells to eat themselves so you can sustain energy and that will cause you to become hungry. Source G also sheds light on the fact that healthy eating is better than dieting by doing healthy eating verse dieting, and the also looking at better food not more food. This helps one understand that you need to be living with everything in moderation and not dieting.
All the information from the various sources show that obesity can be fixed and prevented by just leading a healthy lifestyle and not messing around with your body and experimenting with all different types of diets. Dieting can make everything a lot worse for you instead of making things better for you.

Obesity, Dieting and Life
It seems more noticeable than ever before that one section of the population are obsessed with eating and the other is obsessed with dieting. There doesn’t seem to be a balance.
Being in an all-girls high school I see a lot of girls who just want to be thin and think that dieting is the best way to stay thin or even loose just that little bit of extra weight. It has been a debate amongst me and my friends for years as to whether or not dieting is good for you or not. I have always stood alone on the idea that dieting is actually bad for you while my friends have always said it is good for you.
I believe that dieting is a “quick fix” for young girls. It works while you’re on it and when you are off it you immediately start putting on weight again. By going on diets you are messing around with your body’s natural cycle. I personally think that if you leave a food group out you will be putting your body at risk. There is a reason that we have the food groups, they each have a function in our bodies and by leaving them out, I think that you are neglecting sections of your body. It also is not healthy to have your weight

As I saw in my sources, dieting is not good for you and it doesn’t work in the long run. By doing diets, you are only eating up to 950 calories to 1200 calories which is right on the line of starvation. By starving yourself, you put yourself at risk of becoming infertile and various other issues. This is a clear indication that dieting is not good for you.
A main reason that young people diet is so that they can live up to the expectations of society. The impact magazines and television have on the youth of today are really quite worrying. The more girls see thin, airbrushed girls on television and magazines, the more they fell that that is what they have to look like in order to be seen as beautiful.
The other reason is that people are suffering from obesity. Doctors are telling obese people that they need to lose weight and so they go straight onto a diet when really what they need to do is eat better food not diet.
People are obese because they are generally too busy to cook healthier meals. They are often out for lunch and dinner on business and then when they aren’t, they are tired, and so they just order take out. This causes people to put on large amounts of weight. The other reason they put on weight so quickly is because they do not have time to exercise. So, people are eating more and unhealthy food combined with absolutely no exercise. No wonder they are obese.
People who are obese generally have other health issues.
By having other health issues and then getting onto a diet that is only focusing on a few areas of your body and neglecting the others is extremely risky. You are only making thing worse for yourself. As seen in source B it can be seen that there are various, highly dangerous diseases that you can have because of having obesity, like, hypertension or even having a lack of oxygen at night whilst you are sleeping or serious heart problems, or even Type 2 Diabetes.
The process of losing weight when you are obese needs to be well monitored. You need to make sure that you are not putting your body under too much pressure.
The sources all indicated that one with and without obesity should Not be dieting. You should be eating food that is healthier, firstly. This will help you start dropping weight almost instantly. Then you need to cut down on your portion sizes which will help get your metabolism functioning properly and smoothly once again. This will ensure that you lose weight.
Once you have lost the extreme excess weight you need to start doing very small amounts of exercise and building it up as you lose weight to get you not only at the right weight but also fit and healthy.
When I liked my finding it was obvious that dieting couldn’t possible be good for a person with health issues such as obesity if it wasn’t good for the average person who in fact is healthy and
fit.

Conclusion
The task was interesting and enjoyable. By looking into facts that actually influence my day to day life I was even more interested in the topic. I looked at dieting and whether or not it was good for a person and came up with conclusion that it isn’t good for you and that you shouldn’t do it. Then I looked at Obesity and found that is one of the world’s largest problems at this point in time. I then linked the two topics. Dieting and obesity. They go hand in hand because the more obese you are the more obliged you feel to use diets as your form of losing weight.
It was then evident that if a diet was harmful for a generally healthy person then dieting for a person who is living with not only obesity but also probably other health issues, then dieting is extremely bad for you and could cause more problems than you had before the diet.
The findings of this project were as predicted which made the project even more worthwhile because it gives me a piece of mind when I am faced with these issues.
