Most of the world would agree that the holocaust was a terrible thing, millions of people being killed over several years was inhumane. A lot of people look back on that and think “how could anyone let that happen?”. If we don’t let Syrians come over we are causing the same situation. It may be difficult to help the refugees, but if anybody in the U.S. was enduring the same situation we’d be asking for help too. The Syrians have been requesting any type of support from the world. In an article published on The Chicago Tribune called “Shouldn’t we care more about Syria?” Zaher Sahloul says, “Syrians have been pleading for protection from aerial attacks that are targeting their hospitals, markets and schools. They have been screaming for help to stop …show more content…
suffocating their children with toxic gases”. These refugees are being treated terribly and bringing them over would help them greatly.
Republicans might argue that the Syrians we bring over pose a threat to the United States. Republican candidates are using the attacks in Paris during November 2015 to send a message to the public that the Syrian refugees could be terrorists and want to infiltrate the U.S. but this is not the case. According to an article by Ishaan Tharoor that was published on The Washington Post “presidential candidates, have sounded the alarm over the threat of jihadist infiltration from Syria — even though it now appears that every single identified assailant in the Paris siege was a European national”. People in the U.S. are getting false information about the refugees. If these Syrians were brought over some screenings will surely be done to protect our citizens. Some even say that bringing over the Syrians would help the United States have a better reputation with terrorist groups like ISIS.
The Syrian crisis is one of the biggest problems in the world right now and something needs to be done to support these refugees.
Bringing Syrians over might not be the easiest thing to do but it’s humane. The country doesn’t want to look back on this time in history and feel terrible because we had a chance to stop the killing of many innocent people if we opened our arms to these peaceful people. They deserve a safe and protected environment to try and live their life. Americans are given this each day and what makes Syrians any less deserving of a life where they have a chance to succeed. We were all migrants at one
point.
