According to the text, Farah Ahmedi and her mother decide to cross the border into Pakistan due to “missing a leg after stepping on a land mine when she was seven, and with her father and brothers dead from a rocket attack, Ahmedi and her mother decide to flee their home in Kabul in search of a better life” (Farah Ahmedi and Tanim Ansary introduction). This is what commenced their mission to cross the border; they want to find safety and live a life without the uncertainty of risks of threats and crisis. Furthermore, Ghulam Ali and his wife offered Farah Ahmedi and her mother another way to cross the border by scaling a mountain. “The woman told us that her husband, Ghulam Ali, had gone to look for another way across the border. He was checking out a goat path that supposedly went over the mountains several miles northeast of the border station” (Farah Ahmedi and Tanim Ansary 8). Due to being unsuccessful in crossing the border even with their determination and struggle, the family’s offer to help her and her mother assisted and helped them greatly with their mission of crossing the border to find a new life.
