Tar Sands In Canada

Canada has a large concentration of oil deposits called tar sands. They are large areas of land that are made up of oil soaked in soil and sand. To extract the oil from the land, oil companies tare down plants, trees, and other vegetation and use tons of water and chemicals to finally separate the land from the oil itself. Sometimes the amount of energy used to separate the oils from the land is more energy than the oil gives itself. This process also polluted a lot of groundwater and ruins a lot of surface water and other resources in the area. Lastly, contamination in the nearby ponds cause many bird deaths and the toxins may get into human drinking water.
