According to the British, all the members of the Parliament represents all of England’s empire, so the American colonies were represented by what is called “virtual representation.” As we all know, “virtual” means something that is there but not physically present. So the colonies had no one to represent them and this did not work out toward the benefit of the colonist because the members of the Parliament made decisions based on what they felt was justifiable. So the Colonist wanted was “actual representation,” which would require someone from each of the colonies speaking out on the colonist behalf. Instead, there were Colonial Assemblies held, which were kind of like the Parliament of the colonies, and considered the commonwealths own legislative body.
