To begin, Burton uses lighting to create a strange but fantastical mood. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, grey filters, an example of low key lighting, were used to make Charlie's entire life seem cold and dark. There was a close up when Kim was hugging Edward. This was such an important thing for Edward because he thought that none could ever him because of his hands. In reality they could never be together because the entire neighborhood now hated Edward and Jim was after him. This ended up actually happening. They both really loved each other but they both knew that they could never be together. The close up provides the audience with the sense of love between the two characters. They both really cared about each other. This scene created a sad mood because the audience knows that they could never be together. Another technique that was used was a two shot. When a flashback of Edwards occurred, it showed the audience the time when Edward was so close to being normal. His inventor had an early Christmas present for him and it ended up being hands. Instead of always having scissors, he could put on regular hands and be normal for once. But suddenly the inventor dropped to the floor while he was showing the hands to Edward and sliced the hands with Edward's hands on his way down. The inventor had died and so did Edwards chance at being normal. The two shot was when Edward was with the inventor on the floor. He wanted to try and help but ended up accidentally cutting his face. At the same time each morning all of the husbands left for work and throughout the day all of the woman would go to other houses or call from their phones to gossip. Then when all of the husbands come back from work, all of the wives would quickly run home and make dinner. Most people wanted their lives to be perfect where each day is the same and nothing ever goes wrong. Nothing is ever like this in reality. At the barbeque, no one left Edward alone because he is the first new thing to that neighborhood. They always do the exact same thing with the exact same people. Having a new character come into their lives who has an extraordinary difference, is an exciting thing for them. Of course no one would leave Edward alone because he has been the topic of their gossip for a while now and they all want to know what he is and they all want to see his hands. In reality neighbors rarely have gatherings due to people moving and people wanting to keep to themselves. They neighborhood gives off a joyful mood because everyone is having fun and they are enjoying
