Effects of Technology in Our Lives
The evolution of technology has dramatically changed society. An endless number of people all over the world use and benefit from modern technology, and the tremendous opportunities it provides play a significant role in almost all fields of human life. Technology has simplified the access to many necessary tools people need in education, industry, medicine, communication, transportation, and so on. However, excessive usage of technology has its drawbacks as well. Though, in most cases, the speed of fulfilling tasks accelerates with the help of technology, many people do not realize that technology negatively affectssociety, and its considerable development has complicated life in a number of different ways.
Technology has weakened the relations among family members. Busy with diverse devices, family members cannot have such convivial atmosphere as they used to in the past.
Before the invention of these devices, family members would sit together around the table and play gamestogether. However, since the invention of video games, those kinds of entertainment have changed to games played individually, and the impact of such games on family relations is apparent. Nowadaysinstead of watching TV together or eating a family meal, everyone in the family isin a separate room, either playing video games, watching football or just typing messages. Though, in some cases, technology helps parents to communicate with their children and know their location, it is not always enough for children’s safety just to stay connected with the family. People are so mesmerized by their smart phones or laptops that they are blind to others around them. Consequently, spending less time with family and more time with different gadgets can cause the loss of tight contacts with close relations.
Technology also has both positive and negative effects in the area of education.

With the instant connectedness of the world today our "family traditions" have been affected and some eliminated. I am only 24 years old and I remember a time of being outside in the summer from sun up to sun down playing with my friends. Internet was available but it was not of our concern. As far as families being put in a bind, you now see that on road trips games, such as “I Spy” and “20 Questions,” no longer exist. Families now have their children isolated with headphones on watching a DVD, or each child has his own smart phone and is waist deep in whatever game or activity they are conducting in. This is all in opposition to interacting with your children and truly having “family time.” Isolation is more prevalent now than ever amongst families. For example, your son is upstairs on his Xbox or Playstation, while your daughter is on Facebook gossiping about nonsense. Before this technological age each child helped prepare and serve dinner. However, parents are now yelling from the bottom of the staircases “dinner is ready!” This lifestyle change plays a vital role in family interaction and communication. Each of these small and simple actions has slowly begun to deteriorate the extremely important merging of families.…

In turn, this is affecting the cohesiveness of the family unit. How? Many times children or parents are on their cell phone, whether talking, texting, emailing or on a social chat room, while at the dining table, while on trip or any other place. Howard Melamed has made an argument that telephones in general have caused this problem and that the cell phone is not to be blamed. Melamed mentions that twenty to thirty years ago, if we walked up and down our block we would have noticed teenagers on the telephone, or not leave the house because they were anxiously awaiting the phone call from a friend (2007). However it is the ubiquity of cell phones that have made it a juggernaut in comparison to the house phone. So at times when parents and their children should be conversing with each other they are watching, reading or talking with someone else on their cell phone when they could be drawing closer to each other. The argument can be made that while the children and parents are at home that this did not necessarily mean that they were spending time together. This is very true and Melamed himself argues that cell phones and their ability are inherently bad, but that responsibility of raising children falls upon the parents (2007).…
