Police technology has evolved so much from the time of the first modern officer. No more is it CB radios and dirt road chases. With an ever growing population to protect, law enforcement officers needed technology that would allow them to do their jobs better and faster. Less than lethal weaponry has been a wonderful advancement in law enforcement, instead of having to shoot a suspect, it is possible to incapacitate them using one of these methods. Pursuit management technology helps law enforcement officers to contain traffic pursuits before they damage property or people. Crime mapping allows departments to find correlations between crimes and different parts of the city.…
There are many different ways law enforcement agencies fight crime and solve them. The continuous usage of technology is one of those major ways. Law enforcement agencies uses different technologies that are needed depending on the situation and the outcome of it. Some examples of technology that police use Today are GPS systems(global…

“How one tragedy affects so many others.”(Kenneth Eade) The many accusations of unnecessary police brutality is one of the primary causes of the introduction of police body cameras. The government was trying to find a solution to the slowly growing tension between the police and the common people. There are many different views on if these cameras are affective and necessary to keep around.…
There are many different forms of technology used in policing in today society. This technology is very important when it comes to policing and being able to do their jobs proficiently. Some of the technology they use is database and information technology, computer-aid dispatch, records management systems, and mobile computing. All of these forms of technology play a vital role in policing. Without these forms of technology being available to police there could be a higher crime rate, a higher wait time between calls, more deaths or injuries, and so much more. The technology that is available is set in place to keep things running smoothly and ensure that calls get answered in a timely manner. With the technology that we are gaining in the policing field I believe that we have advanced so much and will continue to do so.…
In today’s world, officers have patrol cars, have more strict rules to follow, and the community has the advantage of being able to call for help at any time. This has changed communities drastically because it has helped to deter crime. This evolution has changed how law enforcement is viewed in society. In today’s world, there is a stronger rapport between officers and the community. There is a stronger layer of trust as so it is a stronger belief that officers do indeed strive to protect the citizens within the community and not hurt them. In turn, this increases the chances that citizens in the community will pitch in to work hand in hand with law enforcement in their fight to deter crime. Simply put, the stronger the level of trust, the easier it is for citizens to talk and help law enforcement with any information they need to solve a crime. The criminal justice system is still seeking methods as a means of trying to prevent crime. There are many advantages of technology today, that has helped law enforcement to deter crime. Advantages such as Fingerprinting, Eye scan, surveillance cameras, and Gps has all helped law enforcement to catch criminals and lock them away. Such advantages helps law enforcement to be more successful in finding reliable information needed to consider a criminal guilty of an accused crime. Survelliance cameras can now be found in stores, schools, and within the community. However, these…
The development inside the technological and communications progression has matured from a lot of developments within central science and its growth is ongoing. Both positive and negative effects have occurred from the technology working in our criminal justice system. Police brutality is a huge problem in America today, and few steps are being taken to prevent this injustice. One way of eliminating some of this from society is having police officers wear manually activated cameras on their bodies to record any interactions with civilians. Recently, multiple cases revolving around police brutality including two extremely controversial cases from 2014 where two black men (Eric Garner and Michael Brown) were killed by white officers who later were not charged. The news and multiple social media websites took notice of these cases and it became a widespread public issue. A way to solve this problem is to have law enforcement wear these cameras so that the video recordings can be used to resolve many disputes revolving around necessary force. Body cameras…
Throught the advancement of technology we can encourage agencies to think proactively and develop cautious steps. I think that it is suitable to think of alternative visions of policing because of the change in technology and society that we inherently demand a proactive outlook. The nature of policing consist that of present day problems such as emergencies that needs to be dealt with in the moment. Although, this is crucial we need to focus on the future to forecast events so we can be equipped to deal with various…
In the 1900s when policing was created they had to face many issues to make sure that they handle lowering crime rates. Those were desperate times for policemen in a hostile country with unpaved streets and uneven sidewalks, sometimes miles from the police station, with little prospects of assistance in case of need. It took nerve to be a policeman in those days. The first use of technology in policing was cars, radios, computers, and firearms. If it were not for the creation of technology in 1900s police departments would have a very hard time to stop all the crimes that were being created. So in 1960 the Crime Commission was established. Today in the 21st Century there are many new kinds of technology used in policing and one is being created for the “future cops” which decreases the dangerous high-speed chases with criminals is the StarChase System. The StarChase system is a laser guided GPS tracking system that is launched from the front grill of the squad car and guided by a laser-light. The police departments would find ways on how to prevent and solve crimes with the use of technology. Only in recent years have many agencies found the use of information technologies significantly helpful. Some examples of these technology uses include fingerprinting databases, computerized crime mapping, and records management systems doing everything from inventorying property and cataloging evidence to calculating solvability factors. Police Agencies in modern society are a part of the American fabric to serve and protect the American public. The United States currently…

This could help when criminals are running and officers are in pursuit. These sensors would make it easier for officers finding criminals on foot (Pearsall, 2010). Another advance in technology would be night vision. Night vision could aid police officers that are in pitch black conditions providing a Hugh tactical advantage. This type of technology could help officers in night searches. Some other examples of future policing advancements in technology such as shared video feeds which could provide incident command with a direct view of an officers position and see what the officer is seeing. Back up in units could also retrieve live feeds of the danger zone and adjust their position accordingly (Pearsall, 2010). Officers could also use patrol car operator data and regional traffic management information on a heads- up display to make driving safer and more efficient especially in pursuit and rapid response units (Couper & Buerger,…
GPS tracking could be implemented into each agency. In our society, overcrowding in the prison system is an enormous issue. Prisoners are being released into our communities and may even be involved in another crime. GPS tracking is essential to prisoners being released in our community. Such prisoners for instance, child molesters and drug traffickers would be monitored and track everywhere they go. If a child molester approaches a school within a certain radius than the GPS alarm would activate at the local police station and officers could pin point where to apprehend him/her for violating their parole. Drug traffickers could have a GPS monitoring system placed on themselves and on the vehicle. This GPS system would have to be activated nationwide due to suspects moving into another county or state.…
