The Power of the Body
“Fake it ‘til you make it” is a valuable quote given by Amy Cuddy at one of her
Ted Talks “Body Language Shapes Who You Are”(June 2012). Amy Cuddy, a psychologist and associate professor at Harvard believes that body language is key to feeling powerful. The body language she talks about is simple as posture, she also mentions that posture can affect the chemistry of the body. The way she supports her argument is by using pathos, ethos and logos. Cuddy puts use into her argument by not just making us feel emotions and gaining our trust, but she also provides facts to back up her statements. Amy gets emotional first with the audience when she mentions the horrible car accident she had at the age of 19. She portrays how she felt when her IQ decreased dramatically due to the horrific accident, she was told she would never be able to attend college ever again. Cuddy also gets emotional when she had a talk with one of her students from Harvard who did not participate in class, she had confessed to Cuddy that she felt that
she wasn’t supposed to be there. This student had made her feel emotions that she experienced in the past, but no longer felt them because she was now powerful.
Amy J.C Cuddy was born in the year 1972. She is an American social psychologist researching how humankind interacts in different ways with each other and how it affects the hormonal levels. Cuddy is also an Associate professor at Harvard Business School. She has a PhD in Social Psychology and a MA in Social Psychology from Princeton University and a BA in Social Psychology from the University of Colorado. As I learned more about
Amy and her achievements I gained to trust her due to the fact that she must know what she is talking about because she has studied how the human brain works in different situations. Not only did Cuddy gain my trust by all her degrees, but she also gave hard
