Teenage Girl Observation
As I am checking out a customer I hear a child scream. I turn around and see a teenage girl with blonde curly hair with one child on her hip and another one holding her hand demanding a donut. She crouches down and quickly talks him down, promising that each boy could get a piece of candy for after their nap. I watch her as she walks to the ordering screen, the older child instantly starts touching all the buttons, she does not get angry as I would have expected from someone her age. Instead she explains that the machine is not a toy and allows him to click the buttons to make her sandwich. A man near her comments on allowing the children to touch the screen, gracefully she puts the man in his place without being rude. The girl gets in the …show more content…

I hear them say some pretty nasty things, I immediately stop and confront them. These girls do not even know Morgan, they do not know that the reason she looks so angry in the halls is that she is probably running on under six hours of sleep. She happens to be a really genuine and loyal person. No matter what someone has done to her or if they grew apart she is always a hundred percent there for them. Even though people will do her wrong she still drops anything she is doing for them. Her loyalty to people often leads to them taking advantage and hurting her in the end. Even when these people hurt her she fights extremely hard to keep them in her life. If she cuts someone off, they cannot imagine how hard it was for her. Most people do not know that she is so terrified of cats, and at the sight of them she bursts into tears. While she is scared of cats, she has an infinite amount of love for dogs, the bigger the better. One of her best qualities is the ability to be positive in the worst situations. She has been through some challenges, but she has gotten herself together each time. One of her greatest wishes is to have a stronger relationship with her mom, over the years their situation has improved but is not anywhere near where she would like it to be, which has caused her a lot of stress and heartache. Because of her lack of a relationship with family, she strives to create a better

From the year of Lincoln’s first election, to the end of the Reconstruction Act, America had been through a cultural and political revolution, that changed the entirety of the country's dynamics. After the close of the Civil War in 1865, the Union held a clear stand against the institution of slavery. After President Lincoln was assassinated, his vice president, Andrew Johnson, popularly seemed unfit for the task of reconstruction of the country. Congress, Constitutional amendments, racism, and hateful terror groups would develop the civil rights movement, that would be a national transformation. Between 1860-1877 constitutional and social developments extensively amounted to a revolution, by ways of a public and congressional push for a…

She has never been in therapy, neither Mrs. Shayan. Her teacher recommended that might therapy help her to have a better understanding of how she behaves with others. Mrs. Shayan explained that Sheila made up the stories about her life, which are not true. For instance, when her best friend was sharing about her family in their class, Sheila made a comment that her father was Asian as well. Her father is Caucasian, and she doesn’t look like Asian heritage at all. When her best friend tried to confront her, she got so upset and hasn’t talked to her since then. Her other classmates reported to her teacher that they don’t want to play with her, because she is very “bossy”, and doesn’t allow them to take turns. Her teacher, also, reported that Sheila steals her classmates’ food and snacks. When her teacher tried to talk to her, she claimed that she thought that was her snack, and she made a mistake. Mrs. Shayan added that Sheila needs lots of attention at home, because she is overweight and they monitor her eating habits everyday. When I asked Mrs. Shayan about her resources as a single mom, She told me that she works full time to pay their bills. She mentioned that her parents help her to babysit her…

In February 1992, Seventy-nine-year-old Stella Liebeck of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was sitting in the passenger seat when her grandson drove his car through a McDonald’s drive-thru window. I didn’t want to annoy the employee so I just ordered a Big Mac. When I pulled up to the window, I was nervous; I didn’t want the employee to see me because I had just made a fool of myself. But, the employee did see me and noticed that I was a teenager. He immediately assumed that I was part of a prank and asked me, “So where’s the camera?” to which I replied “What camera?” He chuckled, handed me the Big Mac, and I drove off. On the drive home, I laughed the whole time. I kept picturing the man’s face when he asked me where the camera was. But, along with the fun, this experiment was also a great learning experience. I learned that violating a social norm isn’t such a big deal after all. Before, I thought that doing something like this would be embarrassing and that people, like the McDonald’s employees, would make fun of me. But the only response I got from the McDonald’s employees was a little chuckle and life continued. Perhaps I shouldn’t worry about my social mistakes too much because the people around me don’t really care as much as I think they…

What happened is that the disabled woman (who was in an electric wheelchair) decided not to buy anything while in line and made the effort to back up out of the way and let the younger woman go ahead of her. The woman made no eye or physical contact at all; she merely stepped out of the way and looked straight ahead. I saw the older woman’s “thank you” go unnoticed and no one moved to open the door for her on the way out. It did not particularly bother me that no one opened the door for her because I am sure she was fine doing that on her own, but what irked me was the fact that it seems like the younger woman completely ignored the older woman’s existence. It reminded me of how in the ageism chapter it says “The individual elder is affected by… social and cultural attitudes and values…” (Larabee, n.d., p. 572). I believe that usually society sees older people as being “dependent” like the chapter says towards the middle section of page 572 and that because of this belief, they need to be helped more. I think that what I saw happen between the two women was the complete opposite of what is usually seen in society. I had expected to see the younger woman to open the door for her and give into ageism or to at least acknowledge the older woman’s presence, but this…

True event: When I was a younger man back in 1973 or 74, I was out in (Royal Oak) near the (Detroit Zoo). I cannot remember the reason I went out there more than likely just joy riding, I use to do a lot of that when I was younger since the age of 18, and mostly I have driven new cars all my adult life. I saw a sign for a delicatessen that offered corn beef sandwiches among others; so I stopped, and went in to buy a sandwich. When I entered there were people already in line placing and receiving their orders and more people came in after me; you did not need to have a number for your turn to place an order. The order taker or waitress a (white female), was doing a good job of calling the correct person for their orders until my turn was up. When my turn came the order taker asked someone for their order that I felt entered after I did, but I saw not sure. Anyway after this person made their order (MY turn), wrong; she asked someone else could she help them, but what she did not know was that me and this person had short small talk while waiting our turn. Instead of stepping up to place an order, this person said; I think gentlemen is suppose next, the order taker said (oh sorry), and asked me (what do you want)! I looked at her and said not a thing from this place, and turned and walked out. As I left I could hear a few people telling her about manners and he was just another customer regardless. Oh did I mention that I was the only person of color in the delicatessen. I was not embarrassed, but angry as a (**********).…

Her personal struggles versing the public is shown throughout her middle school career, she spends every day in middle school trying to make friends, this task is hard for her because she does not mentally function at the same pace or level as those in the same grade as her. She can sometimes act at a very immature level and it can be off-putting to others around her. The students my sister has chosen to be friends with influences the way she acts at home and the new behaviors she begins to show. There was a year she had a friend we had thought was going to be a good influence, little did we know that my sister was learning very inappropriate words that should never come out of a thirteen year olds mouth. This situation was a good example of personal troubles vs. public or structural issues, the people she associated herself with influenced the way she behaved and what she believed was right or wrong. Another example of this concept is the state of my sister being bullied at school and the way they handle the situation even though they say that they are trying to gain control of bullying in the school…

There are many ways to describe the american identity today like family traditions or or how you feel in time of tragedy. Another way to describe an american identity is the age of the person. How old the person is will affect their american identity because they have seen more than us more tragedy and that may have shaped their identity differently according to how long they have been around. A person who has been around longer knows more about America. How does our generation define what it means to be an American today in the 21st century.…

I observed a video titled “Emily As Cashier”. In the video, I observed a girl named Emily. She’s less than 3 years old. The setting was in their kitchen with a table and chairs. Emily was in the middle chair while her mom and dad sat beside her. In the middle of the kitchen table, there was Emily’s red cash register toy and a white bag. The video started while Emily was pressing her toy. She then pulled out clothes from the white bag which she got help from her mother. She stated “ok” to start the transaction, even though it was babbled. She first grabbed a pair of blue jacket and blue pants and she then scanned it at its tag. After scanning two times, she then checked to see the scanner, and scanned it a couple of times in her face. She said in not very clear words, “it’s 1.34!” a couple of times, she then said “daddy look, it’s 1.34”. The dad said ok to her. Emily put the shirt and the pants in the opposite corner. After that, she grabbed a second shirt. It is a blue with white stripes long sleeves. The shirt was attached to a pair of pants but it came off. She scanned once it in its tag again and put it on the opposite side. She next grabbed the pants that were paired with the long sleeves but she couldn’t find any tag on it. She asked her dad “where it is” and her dad explained to her that “it goes with this one, it’s a two piece”. After that, she scanned again the long sleeves shirt, and then scanned the pair of pants without the tag. She scanned the pair of pants 4 times. She babbled the price and said it’s 1.23. The last thing she grabbed was the white shirt and she scanned it 3 times. As she finished scanning everything, she then calculated it. She kept pressing her cash register toy. Her dad said, “get the money out” and that’s what she did. The video ended while she put the money into her mouth to close the cash register toy.…

Watching children at play has always been quite a fascinating experience for me. Seeing them interact with each other always makes you stop and think to yourself, why are they doing the things and acting the way that they are? Having the chance to observe a child in their everyday environment was such an experience and brought so many things into perspective. I had the chance to observe such a unique two and half year old little boy named Asher. Asher, since day one has always stood out from other kids for me, and it was such an exciting time to be able to observe him at his house with his mother, Shannon, and father, Brandon. During the observation, Brandon, was watching television socializing with the other people in the room, while Shannon was primarily trying to interact with and entertain Asher. While observing Asher he still held my attention as far as not being like most boys his age. Asher like always was very quiet, laid back, and preferred playing with his toys instead of people interaction. Be it that he was this way, is what I thought made him unique, I believe he was the perfect little boy to be immersed in.…

For this project I chose to visit and observe a preschool program oriented towards the mentally-impaired child. This small school is near my military installation, although it is not directly associated with it. Most of the families who enroll their children in the school are military personnel, and the director is a military veteran. There are eight 4-and 5-year old children in the group, and each of them has some special difficulty in the emotional or mental realm. The physical environment is a building that has been partially converted into a school. The atmosphere is homey and friendly, and the director is as relaxed as if she were inviting the families, the children, and me over for a friendly chat over coffee.…
