Executive Function Disorder
Having the impact of learning new ways to think to understand someone who has executive function disorder, this disorder is described as the cognitive processes that govern most of what your child does on a daily basis being impacted, it is hard for me to stand by and watch as my sister is a victim of personal trouble vs. public or structural issues: personal problems that happen in a patterned way to a large number of individuals end up being public issues or consequences of social structures, making rational decisions (Rational Choice Theory): the self-interests of individuals, struggling in school (Dependent/Independent Variables): the effects of one thing on another and the effects of her inability to interaction with others without making a situation uncomfortable (Symbolic Interactionist Theory): face-to-face interactions that make up social life.
Her personal struggles versing the public is shown throughout her middle school career, she spends every day in middle school trying to make friends, this task is hard for her because she does not mentally function at the same pace or level as those in the same grade as her. She can sometimes act at a very immature level and it can be off-putting to others around her. The students my sister has chosen to be friends with influences the way she acts at home and the new behaviors she begins to show. There was a year she had a friend we had thought was going to be a good influence, little did we know that my sister was learning very inappropriate words that should never come out of a thirteen year olds mouth. This situation was a good example of personal troubles vs. public or structural issues, the people she associated herself with influenced the way she behaved and what she believed was right or wrong. Another example of this concept is the state of my sister being bullied at school and the way they handle the situation even though they say that they are trying to gain control of bullying in the school

    A child who suffers may be less willing to join in with verbal discussion both with teachers and peers. They may appear rude and abrupt to others which will affect friendships.     She has gone through some tough experiences at school, as did I. When I was in elementary school, when I said what ethnicities I am, they would not believe me. I was either to light to be African American, or too dark to be Puerto Rican. my classmates would even tell to prove it that I was really Puerto Rican, to speak in Spanish. They were quick to say if you do not speak Spanish you are not a true Puerto Rican. Not only was it a problem in school, but my life at home, because I never knew where I fit in. When I was with my father’s side of the family, who are African American, it was hard because I was basically the only mixed child. All my cousins looked different from me and I did not know why.     Me growing up with her like this made it seem like nothings was wrong with her so I didn't treat it like an issue or I was totally oblivious to her. Later on I had to move in with my dad because of some issues within my family that forced me over. My sister did not share the same dad as me. When I was in 6th grade.     A theory which was helpful whilst carrying out my activity was Eriksons lifespan theory, This theory believes we go trough stages in life and have to have a positive outcome from the stage in order to successfully move to the next stage. I have been able to understand Laurens behaviour by having knowledge of this theory which makes me very patient when speaking to her, because Lauren did not have a social circle when she was younger and did not learn how to develop relationships outside of her family this shows in her adult life when displaying social skills. As I mentioned in the plan, Lauren was severely bullied when she was at school and this lead to her becoming withdrawn.
