ADHD is found many people today and is not life threating. It is a problem with inattentiveness, over- activity, impulsivity, or a combination. ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed childhood disease. It is diagnosed in more boys than girls. It may run in families but it is not sure what causes it. Most kids with ADHD are not diagnosed with it at first. They are diagnosed with something else. Kids that have this disorder often have another behavioral or development problem.
ADHD is diagnosed in two different types of people. It is diagnosed in children and in older children. Children should have at least 6 attention or hyperactivity symptoms. Some may be present before age 7. The must be present for at least 6 months also. They must be causing significant difficulties in many settings. In older children there needs to be an evaluation by a doctor. Parent and teacher questionnaires should take place. Psychological evaluation of child and family should also happen if the child has this disorder.
Treatment of ADHD is not much because ADHD is not life threating. Treatment needs to come from the mind of what the child wants to do and what the parent is willing to do. Parents need to set specific appropriate target goals to guide therapy. They patient needs to start medication and behavior therapy. The patients need to schedule follow ups regularly with doctor to check on goals, results, and any side effects of medication. Medication is the main treatment. The medications that ADHD patients take are called Psychostimulants. Those Psychostimulants include Dexmethylphenidate, Dextroamohetamine, Lisdexamfetamine, Methylphenidate.
There are 3 main categories of Symptoms of ADHD. The first one is lack of attention. The patient may be not doing very well in school due to lack of attention because they are easily distracted to simple things. The second one is Hyperactivity. If patients do not take their medicine, or are not treated right, they me become out of control
