Unit 3: Emotion and Behavior Draft 2 Why do teens make bad decisions when they are with their friends? The article “Teenagers, Friends, and bad decisions” by Tara Parker-Pope informs and explains why teens make bad decisions. Also in the novel “Tears of a Tiger” Sharon B. Draper gives examples of how teenagers have positive and negative behaviors. Emotions and feelings could sometimes be the reason why they behave either bad or good. Teenagers have many reasons why they behave the way they do. Teenagers should stop trying to impress their friends by doing unnecessary Teenagers make bad decisions mostly in front of their friends. To start off, in the article “Teenagers, friends, and bad decisions”, by Tara Parker-Pope it states that teenagers crossed 40% more yellow lights and got into 60% more car accidents while their friends were watching. Brain research shows that teenagers misbehave more when their friends are watching. According to the article, “… teenage peer pressure has a distinctive effect on brain signals involving risk and reward… young people are most likely to misbehave and take risks when their friends are watching.” this is significant to all teens out there so that they can know what effect takes action when they do silly reckless things to impress their friends. According to the novel “Tears of a Tiger” Andy Jackson, the main character, was drinking and driving until he killed Robbie Washington (His best friend) in a car crash. Teenagers have positive and negative behaviors. First, there are some teenagers who are good in school and are very well behaved which is a positive behavior that teens have sometimes.
