The book All Grown Up and No Place to Go: Teenagers in Crisis by David Elkin explains what teenagers go through and why it’s become more difficult to have to go through the process of being a teenager and discovering who they are. It discusses how families have changed over the years and that there are many obstacles that are presented that weren’t existent for previous generations. There are new situations that make it harder for teenagers to find out who they are, and situations that can lead them down the wrong paths. Being a teenager is never easy, their bodies are going through so many changes and it can be a bit difficult, so I agree with the main points of this book. It states many of the real issues that teenagers go through, such as depression, stress, peer pressure, betrayal, and family problems.…

I interviewed a girl that lives close to me. She explained her high school story to me, involving friends, family, peers, bullies, and boys. The interview was done as if it were only 2 people talking because I didn’t want her to feel any pressure. She explained what it was like going through puberty by herself, without the help of anyone. How the first two years of high school were and how she disliked it. How after she came back from her summer after sophomore year, she had no problems with anyone and explained how she had a boyfriend for a while. The girl I interviewed relates to plenty of topics that were discussed in the class like, self-esteem, peers, popularity, groups, bullies, family and sexuality.…

Adolescence, also known as "teenage years" is a time of dramatic change. This phase of life marks a developmental period that follows childhood and comes before adulthood. Adolescence is closely associated with puberty, which is also considered as a developmental milestone, particularly in the western countries. Puberty refers to the period of adolescence when a person becomes capable of reproduction (Carpenter, S. & Huffman, K., 2008). In this paper, I will discuss the various factors that affect the physical, cognitive, social, moral, and personality development of adolescents.…

The news is full of depressing stories such as homicides, robberies and so forth, the reality is that teens are the future. Adolescents will be the leader of tomorrow. Even though most people think teenagers are lazy and good for nothing, they are not. Young people should be aware of what is going on in the world since one person can make a difference. For example; Robert Heft, a seventeen year-old, designed the fifty-star American flag. Joseph Bombardier, a Canadian boy, invented the snowmobile at the age of fifteen! If young adults have knowledge of the injustice that is happening in our planet today, then there will be at least a couple of them who will try to change the reality.…

What teenagers do have is the power to create status systems and symbols that not only frustrate adults, but also hinder learning and maturing. Ironically, parents, educators, and businesses are, unintentionally, major contributors to these outcomes. Put simply, while teenagers wield little economic and political power, they can control and evaluate one another. Teenagers do this through a series of accepted norms such as clothes and style, speech and language, including body language, music tastes, money, who and how often one dates and/or hooks up, and various accessory items such as one’s car or phone.…

This is a time in an adolescent’s life where they feel the most need for acceptance from their peers. They have a need to be more experimental, innovative and sometimes controversial. They are at a time where they have to keep reinventing themselves so they fit in with their peers and society in general. Teenagers emphasise freedom but with this freedom come responsibilities and obligations that they don’t want nor do they think they need. Teenagers are at an age where they think they are adults but they don’t understand…

In the early centuries, the teen years were looked upon as very weird. It was a phenomenon that scared, and frightened people. All of the sudden, the teen who was once a kid is now hostile, and has changed plenty. Now in this day in time, scientists and psychologists are now unearthing more and more about the teenage brain. Discovering what is causing all this change in behavior. For me, after interviewing my parent, and looking at their questionnaire, it is safe to assume that teen’s brains and thought processes are different of an adult’s brain.
